I wrote this in response to Rasmot's entry on the Closed Beta of Kitsu Saga. A beta invite I turned down.
You can find his journal here, which is what I'm ranting in reply to:

tl;dr. I was also invited to the closed beta but I turned it down. (As said on my FB page)
Mainly 'cause it looked like every other MMO I've played in existance, and I played alot. Even betatested Maple and was hooked like crack on it until level 47 or so.
Anyway, whole reason I turned it down is because I had a suspicion that it was going to be the same ol' grind and dance with a gimmicky little feature or two that the developers threw in to show how "Different" this game is from the rest of the slag; Case in point; The Kitsu.
Just like trickster online, Pet's are a big point of the game. They function like any other piece of equipment. Stat bonuses, bigger e-penis when you have the rarest pet following your character around. For most intents and purposes, they're a flashy helmet or shield. +2 def. More gloating ability. More noobs trying to buy it off you for half of what you paid for it.
Now, it's free for now, but give it time, and the developers will start releasing cash-shop only versions of these pets. Soon, the developers will no longer focus on expanding the game content, or pushing the envelope any further than "they already have", opting instead to produce as many pets (2000 more kitsu-points if you want that pet in WHITE instead of BLACK!) as humanly possible and gorge themselves on their players lack of intelligence and overflowing wallets.
Then, when things couldn't get any worse, the GM's begin to take a more and more invisible approach to controlling the populace. Eventually they disappear entirely. Bots roam freely. The only people standing in the marketplace are, you guessed it, more bots. Selling gold that the other bots farm off the low-level monsters.
Chat channels are flooded with links to websites to off-shore gold accounts. The economy is completely out of whack. You realize your beginners sword is going to be your best friend for the next 30 levels until you can either pay 10$ from a prepaid credit card for a few million bot-farmed gold, or until you can gain the 80'000 gold needed, one 12-gold pile at a time, for that next sword, which only bumps up your str by 1.
You decide you've had it. You've really tried to give this game your best chance and being something new, something innovative. You quit. You tell yourself you'll never get duped by a stupid cookie cutter MMO...
Until, that is, you get an email. Invited to the Wolves Brigade Beta? Closed Beta is it? Completely unlike anything I've ever played? WOW KILLER?!
Sign me up Scotty! I gotta see this!

Wow. That world of MMOs has become that messed up? That's sad.

Screw the MMOs, I have Card Games!
