Laid to Rest: Vent

  Laid to Rest: Vent
When will you learn to fly?
When will you touch the sky?
When will you kill your sorrow?
The world is yours

When will you reach the moon?
When will you drop the spoon?
When will you kill your sorrow?
The world is yours

So, today at school was the Senior pep rally, and they had this big senior slide show made up and everything, and I was real excited and everything cause I was thinking, "Aw, this is gonna be so sweet and I'm pro'ly gonna cry and everything."

Everything went swell up until about 5 minutes into the slide show. So Photograph by Nickelback was the first song they played, and the entire time, it was nothing but the cheerleaders and their friends. So I thought, "Okay, whatever, they're on a team and I guess they deserve a few more minutes in the limelight." Then, the next song started playing. Guess who was STILL the only people on the slide show? THE CHEERLEADERS AND THEIR STUPID FRIENDS. Then there was a few shots of the football team, then it was back to the CHEERLEADERS. Then the basketball team, THEN THE FUCKING CHEERLEADERS. Then it switched from the cheerleaders to the yearbook staff and all their little friends.

Sure, it doesn't sound so bad, and if this school were a big one, it would be understandable, yaknow? In a big school, they wouldn't even have a senior slide show, since it would be hard to get ALL of the seniors on it. But here? It's UNACCEPTABLE. There are only 70 of us! Everybody knows everyone and their brother in this town!! And they think it's alright to show maybe MAYBE 30 of the seniors? NO. IT IS NOT ALRIGHT.

Well, I guess the other 40 or so of us aren't graduating or something. Or we're just not important at all.

And it's not like only a handful of us noticed that, either. There were freakin' sophomores and juniors that were commenting on it. And you know what else? There is this girl I know; she's the sweetest person you could ever know, and everybody has to like her (it's hard to NOT like her!). Well, she was in one of the pictures with the cheerleaders or whatever, and they CUT HER OUT OF THE PICTURE!! She's a senior too! But NO. They can't have someone 'unpopular' marring their perfect slide show...

UTTER BULLSHIT. The yearbook staff is going to be hearing from me about this. And to think I almost joined their little team of slutty, preppy, stuck-up ho-bags. Then again, if I had joined, maybe I could have prevented that from happening, and taken pictures of the rest of us that don't party every night and pretend to be nice to everyone.

And then, after the slide show, they started giving out awards and shit to those seniors that were on the cheerleading squad and football team. AND ONLY THEM. What about the rest
of us?! What about those people that are in the top 10 seniors?

Hell, there are other seniors that everyone in the school knows, and they didn't get a picture shown! I guess they weren't 'popular' and 'pretty' enough. Or fucking football stars. Like they'll ever get anywhere.

UGH I just want to punch that yearbook teacher in the face!!! I just wish I didn't have to wait until Tuesday to bring it up.

I know what you mean. Then again, at FHS when I was viewing the senior slide show, they did the same thing. But when it broke down to the different classes or electives I had chosen, we each had our very own slide show that only those who were in our class would get. The choir one was bloody awesome and all of the seniors sang and did a whole performance. They even put up those who had died and sung a song for them--extremely depressing. With the Studio Survey, we all made sculptures and pictures for one another. Even though I wasn't a senior, but a junior at the time, they even made us and the sophmores in the class gifts/sang to us since we were all like one huge family.

At Kitty Hawk, the same happened. But instead they greeted every one, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth, for just going to the school and soon graduating from there. When people left because they were moving (like myself from TX to AR) every student and staff would do something for that one person--whether they hated them or even knew them.

For KH it felt more like a way to make up for all of the scheisse that went on there.

Anyway. To say the least I know what you mean, and this was the way the schools I went to 'made up' for it, so to speak. But so far I have only seen the same of the general senior populace as compared to everyone else.
