Ever since I got that guitar, I've learned things. Primarily how to play and use instruments in music. I tell ya, it's 1000 times easier to have an actual guitar than to fake it. I can say this, having done both. But now I don't do both. I primarily use the real thing. This is great!
Except now I'm forgetting my 'roots' so to speak. I'm not nearly as good at coming up with nifty synthetic sounds for music as I once was. When I start to write a new song? I pick up the guitar first and jam until I get something. I almost never use a drumloop anymore. I use EZdrummer almost exclusively.
I am FORGETTING EVERYTHING.
I suppose the theory is still all up there, in my head. I can think about it and know what i WOULD do. Except when I go to do it i suck at it. Quickly exchanging FL Studio's Sytrus plugin for my Schecter. Since so much of what I used to do would be to get close to doing exactly what I can do with the real instruments and superior selection of drum samples (also, and actual DRUM SET RECORDING SETUP once I kick kinks out of it) that I have now.
Sure I've used some electronic elements in the metal stuff I've put out recently. But what are those? untouched Omnisphere presets. Some EQing to remove bass, or something.
Oh ho, remember how I used to be a DnB producer? I haven't done anything that cool in a while.
I'm becoming very...normal.
oh yeah, and I cant write new stuff for shit. writer's block ftw.
WCP Says:
Writer's block here as well. I hope that can change soon, what with going to school and needing an escape...
That's a shame. I like your cool old stuff D= I like your new stuff as well, but I've been consistently listening to songs like 134 and This is How We Rock.

i haven't checked out your old stuff but the new stuff is good, this shit happens to me all the time, i get all hooked up on bass for a little while and i forget about all my synth stuff, or the other way round.
i got the rest of my life sorted out and now i'm at a point where i can focus on more than one thing. mainly right now between music and learning to program.
hey maybe the shift in focus isn't a bad thing anyway, i love your metal!
P.S schecter for the win, i have a schecter stiletto 5-string bass and my brother has a hellraiser ATX. best guitars in their price, what have you got?
Sausabe Says:
Stop being normal; play an electric Ruan!

Lol, yea that sucks man. But I know what that's all about though. Well you can tell by far apart my songs are that I get writers block every other few hours, and then dream of something that fingers can't articulate...it's maddening
But, I think it's something to do with how much attention/fascination you give one particular tool. I'm pretty sure if you played the hell out of your guitar and forced boredom, so to speak, you would immediately get you synth skills back--works for me anyway.
Welp, best of luck to you recovering for that plague that is writers block.. :\
