This story is as heartbreakingly tragic as it is stupid. A parent from Wisconsin was charged with Second-Degree Reckless Homicide for the death of his diabetic daughter. The girl surely was going into some sort of diabetic coma, since she could not move, function, or even say "TAKE ME TO A DOCTOR!".

Now let me get one thing straight: What I am about to say isn't at all a bash on religion. I believe in a god, Jesus, and a firey place I'll surely be going to upon death. No, what I'm gonna be beating on is a man's very poor decision. Religion isn't at all a bad thing, and I'm sure that, despite the stupidness/intolerence that it causes at times (reffering to the "God Hates Fags" bit they pulled, among others), I'm sure that we would be no better than animals without it. But is every religious person forced to make a decision between faith and common sense? I mean, if your daughter is dying before you're very eyes, don't you think it'd be a good idea to trust a doctor just until she can function again? I mean, if all diabetes really needed was prayer to get rid of it, wouldn't everyone do it? Hell, everyone would do it. screw expensive medical bills, let's just crowd around, hands clasped, and do nothing! Perhaps people would be better to doctors if they added an addendum to the "Jesus heals" quote, to "Jesus heals, but that doctor will do in the meantime"

It's very sad to see something like this happen, and the worst part is that this isn't the first time, apparently (the news article mentions another similar situation in it). If I were the judge in that case, chances are, I'd be tempted to let him go, knowing that the death of his daughter is probably enough punishment (if not more than enough). But hopefully his jail time for reckless homicide will remind others like him that "Hey, if God allowed doctors to stay around for such a long time, maybe they're good for something". If it's so bad to put faith in a doctor over God, why do you think He allowed it to happen in the first place? My opinion is that religious people really need to get their heads out of the heavens at times, and look around at the mortal world as an option, too. I mean, we get only one life. Might as well reap it while we're here, eh?

EDIT: More stupid news:

Oh, silly old shoplifters. Won't you ever learn that violence never goes well with thievery?

Freedom of religion should always be important, but NOT when it means you let someone other than yourself get hurt.

Maybe the shoplifter is a zombie? A zombie who likes walmart crap perhaps? oh, right, and human flesh.

Not all religious people are like that. My mamaw and papaw are actually preachers, but whenever one of them gets sick (unless it's a little cold), they ALWAYS go to the doctor to get medication, even if they have to drive to a completely different town 10 miles away to get it.
My papaw actually had wanted to just have God take him away when he had heart problems, but then he had a heart attack and my mamaw didn't waste any time calling the hospital for him. He actually had "code blue" called on him, but they miraculously brought him back.

:/ It just depends on how reinforced religion is in a child's household. Does it ever say what exact religion they are besides Christian and they believe in God? I know that one Christian religion (I don't remember it, though) is completely crazy and absolutely brain wash their children.
