My external harddrive blew up a few weeks ago...well not really blew up..I was trying to fix my computer, and in the process, and pulled the plug on the external harddrive the wrong way, and now I can't access anything in it unless it is reformatted.

I've tried adding a new drive directory for it, but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know of any kind of good programs that could help me extract the files on it? Any help would be muchly appreciated. I would like to get back to work on some of the things I was doing for work and what not ;_;

Look up drive recovery online. I had the same thing happen to my main backup drive and was able to fully restore everything. (I had to copy the files to my computer, format, and transfer back)

Fei Lynn Says:

Did you restart the computer? :B

Jack McSlay Says:

I think norton has tools to recover these stuff, but I'm not sure the same tools work on external drives. You might have to try tools designod for pendrives instead.

You could also try getting a Linux live CD, Linux tends to have better capabilities of opening drives than windows
