I decided to do my concentration on statues. I started by drawing simplistic statues and grew to ones that are more complex and even the famous ones. It became difficult to find statues that i actually felt a reason to draw. In April 2009, I went to Europe and many different statues and was in awe of all of their beauty. I didn' understand how people just walked by them without even noticing. I had lots of inspiration to draw statues. As a child, I was always fascinated by them, by the size and way they looked. The main inspiration I got for all of these pieces of art was from seeing a lonely angel statue in a graveyard.

In the beginning of my theme I used light pencil shading to show the effect of how sometimes art fades through time. Then I moved on to darker pencils to show that a lot of statues survive through a long period of time and i used dark marks to show that they have also left some marks on people through the ages (see slides 7-9). Throughout my pieces I tried to show that the statues weren’t really seen as art as much as they were in the past, and how some art has really become unnoticed. I took the faces out of the pieces that I drew to show that they really stopped mattering to people. In slides 10-11 I have drawn famous statues and yet they have no faces just like the ones that are not as significant. I also tried to incorporate some cultures and belief systems throughout my pieces because many things can be represented by statues. As for the religious pieces I decided to symbolize that even sometimes those have lost meaning as well just like the others have. I tried to put a lot of feeling in my drawings I wanted people to see what I saw in statues and what made me draw them. I believe that statues are very important in history and in the modern age as well. They give us a sense of what the world viewed as beauty back before our generation was alive. In these pieces I tried to show how i feel about art but still attempted to indicate that statues aren't always looked at the way they show be. They are looked at with a blind eye by some and I wanted to show that. This is why I decided to do statues as my theme. Not only because I love them, but because they are important as historical figures and deserve to be preserved for eternity.
