Well I heard today that the long standing British chain 'Woolworths' is going under, all the stores are closing and the company brand will vanish. I find this extremely sad indeed, largely because not only have I always shopped from Woolworths, but I was outfitted from their line of clothing as a child, brought school clothing and toys from them throughout my childhood days, videos and DVDs when I was older, all my pots, pans and cuttlery when I moved to uni, and all my christmas shopping from them this year. They've been open for over 200 years as a shopping chain and now the credit crunch has just killed them flat-out. I find this odd because the one in Hertord is ALWAYS packed with shoppers, and until now the credit crunch hasn't even registered on my radar. No increases in costs to speak of, job carries on regardless, etc. It is a sad day for the UK to loose one of its oldest brands for no real reason.
Goodbye old friend, you will be missed!

(randomly found this though the weird comminuty thing xD)
It's well sad that its closing, where will i get pick and mix? where can we get obscure DVDs like the super mario bros film and Snakes on a Train? It's strange that the next generation won't know what Woolworths is.
Bad times...

Ironically Woolworths was one of the generic shopping chains I half-way respected, (more then Tescos or costcutter or the like at anyrate), it is sad to see it go.
