So, I'm about to get all political on you...I haven't voted yet but I'm just about to. Here is my reasons for voting....PLEASE DON'T GET OFFENDED. I'M NOT DIRECTING IT AT YOU. :) Thanks and I hope you read it with an open mind just like I'll accept your reasons with an open mind.

I have to say, this is the first time I can vote and I'm beginning to feel the pressure upon my shoulders. I want change, but I don't want to make the wrong decision. As for Obama and McCain, neither are quite qualified in my eyes as leading a country. All they do is reiterate all they have to say, and its like three main points. How are we supposed to be swayed by the same speech three times? I don't know, but what I do know is what I'm hoping for. And just like you, it's change.

The main reason I'm choosing to vote in this election is not for president, but for a proposition here in California. That is proposition 8. This proposition wants to change the law constitutionally to ban gay marriage. Not just make it a law, but change the make up of California's constitution to ban a minorities right to be in a union with full benefits of it. Civil Union and Marriage have more similarities than dissimilarities but the things they leave out are completely devastating. Say for example, if one of the partners has a stroke and is put in the hospital. The other partner has no say in their treatment. NONE what-so-ever even if they've been with the person for 15 years. They cannot make the decision to pull the plug or start treatment. Another example, if a partner dies unexpectedly then the other partner gets none of the possessions they shared. None of it at all under this civil union. Marriage gives you full rights to each other despite the occasion that calls upon the use of the document.

Now, what I have to ask is how is being gay wrong? I don't understand how it's wrong for two personalities to love each other. Someone tried to argue that a gay couple shouldn't be married because being gay is a mutation in the genes. It's a malfunction of the body and therefore they shouldn't be treated as NORMAL human beings. I think the real reason it's considered wrong is becuase a gay couple cannot procreate. Since when did having babies legitimate a couple? If we're talking about two people who are old enough to give legal consent, "I Do" ,why shouldn't it be legal? If the couple in question is of legal age and is confident in what they want, why deny them their right? Marriage is purely religious and in all honesty, shouldn't be a term the government uses because of the religious radicals who are willing to try and FORCE a religion upon people. Marriage is defined as a union between man and women. Fine, get rid of the term and make it a Union under the eyes of the Law and go get married under the eyes of your God. Also, many of the people for proposition 8 are religious. What people don't realize, is that a church DOES NOT HAVE to marry a gay couple. There are some churches who are willing, and others who are not. That's FINE. Mind your own business then! Why should it matter to a person if a gay couple wants to get married? It shouldn't matter at all.

Many people who are for the Proposition 8 are trying to pull at people's heartstrings and tell them that teachers will be teaching gay marriage in school. Were you ever taught marriage of any kind in school? I know I wasn't. It's a ridiculous accusation that has been pulled from other states and fit into this absurd accusation.

It seems to me no matter how you put it, voting yes on this proposition is voting yes on discrimination of a minority.

I'm not trying to force anything on you, so you who feel strongly about the YES on 8, please let me know why you feel so strongly. Those of you who are NO on 8, let me know why you feel so strongly. Please and thank you.

So I hope all you who can vote, do so and express yourself.

I voted today; a phenomenal experience. Prop. 8 has been a huge deal, hasn't it? Posters and protestors everywhere. I am very strongly NO on 8. Mostly for the constitution. I will not have the constitution messed with for such a stupid reason. I just don't see why it's necessary...
