Why yes kids, it -is- time for another work-related ramble.
Where to start, where to start...
Oh wait. -turns on music-
Today was the
Workday From Hell(tm).
Imagine 8 people in line at a counter.
Now imagine that being the case for about
five hours straight.
3 out of the 8 people want a dozen doughnuts and half a dozen bagels
each. The other five want three coffees and three sandwiches on croissants.
The 3 that got the dozen doughnuts and half a dozen bagels also want two Boxes Of Joe, which basically means two pots of coffee in a box. This makes four pots of coffee
each for those three of eight that want them.
Now, we have 8 pots of coffee at all times, and we can brew four at a time (Including decaf).
This is what is known as a
problem.
The customers gave what's known as the "cat-butt face" upon hearing that their Boxes of Joe will take a while because, wouldn't you know it, we're having a little bit of trouble keeping up with all the orders.
Don't forget, says the other five, we want 3 croissant sandwiches! Oh, that's right, let's see, three times five is... 15. I need 15 sandwiches as fast as I can while getting the Box of Joe and the medium coffees that everyone wants.
Please ring me up, says another customer, As I have been watching you take orders for approximately 3 years.
Eventually it begins to slow down. By that, I mean there are 2-3 people in line at all times instead of eight. It's about 12:00 noon now, and it has been rushed for a good five hours since I started at 7.
I haven't had anything to eat or drink since last night, and I biked my way to work this morning.
Once I finally ended up with a spare moment that wasn't spent cleaning or preparing more coffee for whatever rush might arrive next, I finally got myself some iced tea for the first time all day. Of course this is when another customer shows up.
She wants a cup of white hot chocolate. This is when the Workday From Hell(tm) began again.
I've never liked the hot chocolate machine. It has trouble running and can sometimes clog up or not stop dispensing hot chocolate, so you have to watch it. So I'm watching it not dispense anything but water, so I shake it a little thinking the nozzle might be a bit clogged or something.
Suddenly it makes a weird noise, and starts running when I
didn't tell it to. Fearing the worst, I hit the little emergency stop sign and the machine
keeps running.
My shift manager Dana(Male) comes to the rescue and says "I'll take care of this, tell the customer the machine is broken and take the next person's order."
So I'm on my way to tell the patiently waiting woman that her hot cocoa is non-existent, but a sight stops me in my tracks. The filter for one of the coffee pots is
overflowing.
Oh shit~! There's only one thing to do in a time like this! Grab the handle of the filter and pull it out, quickly!
And ground coffee and coffee and water spills
all over everything. There are coffee grounds in the other coffee pots so I have to drain them, there's coffee grounds all over the entire counter and in the sugarbowl, and under the sugarbowl there are all of our cups, which excess coffee is getting spilled upon.
After cleaning up a little (Enough to stay functional), I run to the counter to get the one customer's order (white chocolate woman ran in terror, I assume).
He wants a Box of Joe.
When I just had to drain all the coffee.
There's no coffee at drive thru.
So I tell him we
probably can't do it at this time. So he leaves, and I keep cleaning.
Oh, and at some point during the day my co-worker flipped out on a customer that was yelling at her. The customer was apparently in the wrong though, and our manager is just too awesome that my co-worker didn't get in any trouble at all. When I saw the situation while working, I thought they knew each other and were just being vulgar to each other to joke around. Apparently not- she was in the "I don't care anymore" state of mind and bickered with him while smiling. So I was really confused there.
I know now why my manager gave me four days off this upcoming week...
The nice part about today is that I got thirteen dollars' tip.
The sad part is that my mom took that as soon as I got home. >_______>
The good news is that on the 28th I ordered a new toy to make myself feel better about having to give my mom money recently, and I bought THIS:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HBPYIE
I've been wanting it for AAAGES, so I'm really happy that I was able to buy it.
AND IT CAME TODAY. For some reason, they were nice enough to give me first class shipping when I ordered standard, shipped it out the 29th, AND IT CAME TODAAAAY. I was expecting it to come between November 4th and 14th, so this is amazing service. And because I ordered it right before halloween, it came with a japanese mango gummy candy! I don't have the heart to eat a japanese sweet, so it's in the case with my figure. (Oh, and the figure wasn't supposed to come with a case, which is even more awesome). Friggen outstanding service, so I'm definitely leaving them some happy happy feedback. 8D
And now, I relax until tomorrow.
Deep calming breaths k? That all sucks - but at least you did your best, and that's what's important *proud of you*. Also that figurine is awesome and happy days with the whole ordering and everything
.

Best of luck to you
