WhiteFoxDK: Birds and Bears...and a new Bird

Interesting stoofs. Turns out I have the Rook (type of corvid/crow) in my surname, and the bear in my family crest.

And I'm now in need of another bird. My angsty little feathered friend of 10 years passed away yesterday...and the house feels weird without him squawking at his reflection.

But this time, I'm getting a better bird. Summer the parakeet was cage-bound, and refused to come out and interact with anyone. It's not that he was mean, it was just that he was a pet shop bird, not hand tamed and I was too young to properly attempt to tame and take care of him myself (twas only 8 when I got him after all).

But now I do have the resources and patience to work with a bird, and I do believe my next step is a cockatiel. Longer lifespan, calmer temperment, more intelligent and hardy, but not as expensive as a major parrot. I've looked at the sun conures and they're easily 700$ for one X-x

That, and they're flock birds, so there's a good chance it'll want to hang out with the entire family, not just bond to one single person and avoid everyone else (which is why I don't want a lovebird, I would either have to buy a pair or spend all my waking hours with it, and it would bond tightly to one person). So if I'm away for a day or so, it'll survive just fine.

Just need to save up several hundred for the bird (since I want a hand-fed one) and supplies. Should take a month or so, hopefully around xmas time I'll have the new guy (male is my preference to avoid egg problems).

It's been a while.
