As I sit here, typing down the first of Chimaera story arcs (The Messenger), I just got a feeling... A feeling that the location setup doesn't feel... Justified.
Current story location: Near Russia-Finland border, on the russian side. Story would progress across the border and end at a small finnish town.
But something just feels... Blah. It doesn't seem like the best possible setting to kick off a story universe with. The mood would be cold (as the story would take place around an autumn) and a little snowy.
But, it just feels... Bland... It doesn't seem to have any sort of style in it that all my other story locations have (Industrial city, futuristic metropolis, ice fields, space stations) and I need to find the one that would fit The Messenger and still have a certain type of style.
Here's where I need your help.
Should I, or should I not change the setting? And if I should, then to what? Please note, that the story arc takes place within the last months of the third world war and almost everything lays in ruin.
One idea I had would be mid-europe with its old gothic buildings and such... But that feels slightly overused...
And if I change the setting, I gotta find new names for my characters, the current ones and russian based. Don't worry, I'm not afraid to do this, since the names aren't that great to begin with (slightly stereotypical).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Cheers.

First thing, while writing a story, everyone has some ups and downs. At some point you're not satisfied about the things you have. I shouldn't worry too much about it, maybe it's just a temporary feeling.
Second, it's your story, so actually you can change the setting to whatever you like. I mean, it's in the future so a lot of the areas will be changed. Take advantage of that and add some changes yourself, so it fits the story more. Use your imagination! Considering what you told me before, I am sure that won't be a problem!
I don't know if this helps, but I tried
