Xx~! I'm know this is a journal thingy, but whatever, I did post the prologue on the homepage in the other site too.
This is a (non-yaoi) Yu Yu Hakusho story about Kurama and Hiei's love life with an orginal character.
Story type: UNEDITED.

A heart, that had been scorched and ripped out, was still breathing in exhaustion. It couldn't move, but its will to live was more demanding than normal. Maybe if that someone one day realized, they would return and seize it. And with hopes and dreams that never stopped, the heart started to beat a little stronger day after day, trying to comfort itself. Then again, the wound was still hurting, and it was beginning to lose its natural morals. With all the hopes and wishes, may it never surrendered to the darkness.

Akiko. That name. The only name he had been thinking of. The only word he could speak of. She had left him, left him when he needed her most. She didn't know, didn't care if she was toying with his emotions. Emotions. It was for the weaks, and he had proven himself to be above them all. Yet, here he was, trying desperately to gain back those emotions he had lost, had thrown away without realizing, without understanding that he had hurt her too.

He wanted her back, wanted them back. He couldn't care less if the worlds fell beneath him and every living things lost colors. He just wanted them to be normal again. To return to the way it should have been before he chased her away. He didn't want it to; it just happened. It all started out so simple, and she was happy. She had even recommended the beginning of it all. She was such a liar. She said and promised that they'd be together forever. Their marriage was meant to last, last to the point of which eternity would have to surrender. They had that power, they were, after all, immortals. They would live as long as it would take to break the earth, would live as long it it would take to find that happiness they were in seek of. What happened? She bailed on him when they had not yet begun the beginning of anything.

She wanted a family, and he had provided her that; he gave her a son. She was happy, but he couldn't stand it; the boy's life had endangered her enough. Then, she had to renew her bond with her son, leaving him alone. He was afraid, afraid that her heart no longer had him. But he didn't seek comfort; he was content as it was just to have her near. It was her who had pushed him to another. It was her who had taken his old lover in with them. He didn't want to; he begged her, and she begged him. He had given up then; he always had and would always will because she was his---the only one who could make his heart bleed without even trying.

The poison known freely as alcohol had gotten to him. He drank because he knew that was the only way to make her notice him, him and no one else. She wasn't home that day; she was out occupied for the one person he hated. He hated him, his own flesh and blood, because he was taking her from him. And his ex-lover was home; she had cooed him, made him feel wanted, loved. Funny. He didn't even understand the meaning, or had he ever considered of the word "love's" existence till she had taught him. She had taught him many things. Too many to word out, but nonetheless, they were there, clearly fluttering through his mind.

The boy ran up to him, wailing for her. How much he regretted that he couldn't hold him. But back then, all he saw was red. Crimson ribbons like ropes embraced him, telling him that he was his enemy, he should get rid of him once and for all. He did, but not to the point that had killed the boy. He was thankful now that he hadn't. And he took the closest thing to him to releash himself from rage. That was when she came back, she was smiling, but it soon was replaced by her stoic expression she usually gave him when he trapped her. From there, with no more word, but her eyes had yelled it all. Her anger, her fear, her sadness, and her hatred for him. She embraced the boy and fled. She was nowhere to be found since then. All he had left now were memories of her and nothing but her. Though, he was sure that she had forgotten all about them, she had, like he had feared, moved on.

Her brothers, none of them would speak to him about her whereabouts. He knew they knew, he had even tried to force it out of them, but no matter what, he'd always come home empty-handed, and his worn out heart was beating a little slower each day.

He came back to the place where they had first met, getting the news he was allowed to know. Her safety. That was when he discovered her other child, and his heart clenched in anger of betrayal. She did move on then. He kept screaming it over and over to himself, telling him to do something. But he couldn't. He could never hurt her and had vowed to himself he would never do so. Yet her child insisted on spending time with him. He knew the little girl was hers from the moment he had seen her skipping through that door of her uncle's office that he was seated in. The girl resembled her mother in ways that made mortals quiver in fear. All features but one, he noted and became happy with little hopes. She had red eyes. His eyes. There were also the way she talked, uncaring for others' feelings, just like him. The more time he spent with the child --no, his child-- he understood more and more about her current conditions. And he laughed, laughed at himself for thinking such thoughts that deflowed his Akiko.

"What are you laughing at, Uncle?" asked Akemi. He had wondered where did she get her name, but decided it was better off not to ask for she would ramble on matters that did not concern him or even worthy of his attention.

"Nothing that'd concern you." He patted her head. Images of his Akiko kissing this same little head so many times were very pleasing to be seen. He wanted to and would give anything of his that was worthy of anything for a moment or so, holding hands with Akemi in the middle and him on one side while Akiko on the other, walking through a park like a normal family.

But as fate had it, that was the very same moment Akiko decided to be a responsible mother, stealing Akemi away from him. She was skinnier than he remembered or maybe she had grown, he couldn't tell. But the hatred in her eyes made his heart shrink. All these years and it still remained? How long would it be there till she would releash it?

"Mommy!" Akemi kissed her mother in affection, making him wish he was the one that was kissing Akiko instead of her.

But the scolding look on Akiko's face didn't go away. "Akemi, what have I told you about being with a stanger?" Apparently she didn't even glance at him.

"Ano... But he is not a stanger. We're basically related." So innocent, a child's words almost always held truth in them. And in fact, they were almost exactly the truth.

Not too far away, her brother's voice was flying through the air, reaching her. "Akemi!" And she ran to his call.

Akiko turned, wanting to give the stranger a piece of her mind, yet his image had turned the effect the other way around.

"Akiko." His voice was on the same level as usual.

But hers didn't remain on its usual level; it had become something that was considered lower than a whisper as his name came out. "Hiei."

In the deep, deep forest, two aching hearts had finally found their holders. Yet... serenity would never come, and the pain would never cease, because they were fools, trapped under the net of hearts. Maybe someday ... someday they would understand... the reason they were bleeding.

Eternal wounds.
Eternal hatreds.
Love hurt.
