- About to EXPLODE!
Today was a daddy daughter day. In the world of Rattlecat, it's a day where my father and I travel off to some historic landmark, take museum tours, visit a science festival, or, if we're really out of ideas, go watch movies at the movie theaters.
Well, when I say, go watch movies, I mean, movies. As in, Double and Trip features. What this means is we watch movies in consecutive order on a day. Today was to be I Am Legend and Golden Compass.
I Am Legend: Before I left for the theaters, I was told left and right, Legend sucked. It was horrible. Ugh, this is the result of generations of film making. WHAT SHIT.
I object. I personally enjoyed I Am Legend. I devoured it. It is not for someone who watches Narnia, or xXx. It is not for someone who watches Resident Evil, or even Poke'mon. This movie, was better suited for the novel world, but at the same time, was a perfect illustration of its brother novel. I Am Legend is not action-packed, nor is it even close to a suspense tale. It is a tale of humanity's striving for conducting and creating and experimenting with our future, and it is a tale of what happens, when the future unexpectedly becomes our past, and we are forced to use simplistic and primitive notions, namely our instinct, in order to survive. It is a good movie for anyone in the psychological or scientific field; but for all you freaks who just want to see guns, killing, and fantasy creatures, please exit stage right.
Golden Compass: I never got to see it. In fact, we were supposed to, even got the tickets. But here's what happened.
With Doubles and Triples, there is a notable gap between every movie, and normally, had arcade prices not gone up, we'd blast the shit out of Time Crisis before entering the next movie. As of 2005, our movie theaters took down the rule of going to the movie we bought the ticket for. As long as it was not rated R and we were over 18, we are allowed to 'swap' between movies. As in, jump from one to the other if we dislike it, change our minds, etc.
So, Golden Compass started at 4:00. It was 3:10. So to bide our time, we hitched two seats in a PACKED theater.......of National Treasure 2.
I hate sequals. I hate Nicholas Cage. I hate Disney live actions aside from the sentimental sport movies. But I will tell you.
I never left that theater, even at 4 PM when Golden Compass started. I was -hooked-. While the first National Treasure disappointed me, this one was enthralling, and beyond high standards. Instead of putting puzzles with drama and common action, they finally engaged in balancing between comedy and drama, puzzles and simple settings, thereby creating an understandable movie: even to the 12 year olds sitting in front of me.
It's worth it.
So what's next?
Christmas Day: I will be with Dad after 1 PM, and once again to the movies. We're going to see Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Golden Compass.
