Commission info here: http://www.sheezyart.com/journal/323092/
Unless it's something funny or irreverant, I don't rant or post on dA. Usually I post quizzes or funny links or stuff here. But I gotta be serious for a moment. I'm faced with what I feel is a conundrum.
I want to do commissions but I don't really know how the process goes. I've done them like I do freelance illustrations so far, and that seems to work, but I'm still a little out in the dark on the matter. To make things worse I don't go to cons. Not that I don't want to, but I don't know when they are, what they are, and the people I know who do go to cons usually mention it in passing, mostly after they've got tickets and want to know if I'm going or not. Or they invite me to cons that are happening in a week, out of state, for which they've planned and bought tickets and reservations for already months before, meaning I can't go anyway.
I know cons are important, but I can do nothing about it. Not only for commissions but working in the industry, but everyone's had much more experience than me, and actually have friends who know what the fuck is up and have taught them the ins and outs. Not only that, but there's nothing online or anywhere that I've found that lays the ground rules for how or what to do in those situations.
This is less of a complaining rant and more of a "how the hell do I do this?" I'd also like to print out works and ship them (though, since I've already done a lot of printing in the past, I just have to walk down to the shipping place a block away and check their rates. Still, any expert tips in this area would help as well.)
So I plan to stop working on everything else and start working on punching up my viewers and page rates, which in my mind means endless nonsensical and quasi-sexual fanart. At least until I have some semblance of a following. Also to get a subscriber account and start doing prints, then adds, then all kinds of stuff like that.
Basically, if you have any helpful tips, tricks, lessons, information, ANYTHING on the whole commission thing, please tell me since I'm in the fucking dark.
Thanks fer readin',
Ixis
