Alright, I know this is gonna offend you Miyazaki lovers but right now, I'm just about to here with people swooning over him. It's getting ridiculous, it's driving me nuts! There are other Animators out there that made a much bigger impact in the animation world than he. I believe there are two reasons: 1. He's from japan so all the Otaku folks are absolutely nuts for anything from Japan, which makes them easily assume that America is full of "capitalist artists." and 2. He's popular and to be popular you got to think he's cool too. But honestly, I don't think he's the best. I believe he's only popular right now solely because of his recent works. It's a coincidence. Ten or Fourteen years ago, it was Disney and there will be another Joe Schmoe with a great animation and animators will go apeshit for him. The fact of the matter is, no one's the best animator. You'll have inspirations but everyone has something unique to others. I'm not the best animator nor do I have any artistic talent but what about Richard Williams? Or Don Bluth? Any remember American Tale and the Land Before Time? What about the Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go to Heaven? What about influential illustrators like R. Crumb? The stinkin' furries should hear me out on this stuff man. This fact has separated me with many of my fellow Sophomore classmates but I honestly don't care, I hang with the Juniors and Seniors of the stinking Media Arts department since I work. Are we to be purged of our own style and emulate the mimic Americanized style Japan created during the 30's,40's, and 50's? I find it silly.
