arlight, by popular demand (kindasortaalmost maybeexceptnotreally), here are ten factoids about my art.

1. I probablly finish half of what I draw and draw a less of a quarter of what I think up. so that's like.........some-odd precent of what jar's around my old noggin'.
2. I've been drawing as far back as I can remember and have been encouraged to do as such since my youth. When my mom voluntered at the elementary school, I would sit with her and scribble things on yellow paper and give them to her and the secratary (I think I was in preeschool then, or thereabouts).I found a little "apttitide test" from kindergarten wherein I was asked to draw a person...it's a blob with a head and two lines for legs, there are no arms and instead of having a nose, it has two nostrils
3. I don't have the talent to "go pro" artistically (though I'd certainly love it)but still, I never want to give up drawing and wouldn't for anything in the world.
4. as far as Comics go, I have no idea what I'm doing, writing them, formating them and drawing them are thing I'd like to attempt but ultimatly have no clue how to go about.
5. none of my "real-life" artist friends use markers, infact, they're scared to use them. I use copics and sharpies; I need to find a brand of good, cheep markers.
6. when I was little, my parents praised my art, now it's only my father who really seems impressed by what I do. Mom show's little to know intrest unless I overtly show her something, and even then, it's feigned. This is because I've always been reaching for a cartonish look stylisticaly and have only now accheived the look I want. She was raised amongst a family of "real" artists and so I suppose neither anime or the the american cartoon sytle appeals to her.
7. My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere including stuff I see on the street or watch on t.v, comics, music and conversations. My favorite Manga artists at the moment are Tite Kubo, Gosho Ayoma and Hiromu Arakawa. Batman, X-men and Runaways are my favorite western comics along with the Scooter-girl and Blue Monday
8. The star of the story I'm currently and enthusistically panning-out,Felix O'Hara, was created for a contest held by my school's anime club, she was origionally supposed to be a "child prodigy", she's grown over the years. The design for Hale Miller has been with me for years and conversly, he's been looking younger and younger when I draw him.
9. When I draw people, I start with a oval and work from there. if the pose is simple enough, I'll draw a basic outline and elaborate on that. If it's a more difficult pose, I'll draw a stick-figure-like skeletal frame and fill it in with circles at the joints.
10. during the school year, I do most of my drawing during school to help me focus on what's being said. Now that it's summer, I draw whenever I get the urge to, have the motivation and am not lazy/tired.

yeah, that's it.

Yay!
I totally relate, with your mother. I get the "art" gene from my mom, but she's totally about realism, and doesn't understand cartoons at all.

Look into Tombow markers. They should have them at any art store that's really good, or you could order them from an art catalogue. Cheap and wonderful, with big awesome brush tips and tons of colors.

And you have kickin' taste in comics.
