Does anyone have ANY idea how many times people have gotten confused and mistaken me for my friend and mentor Jen Seng...? It's amusing. I find it VERY amusing. It's my fault, though, for the similarities in the artwork. She doesn't mind it, but I sometimes find people who are angry, thinking I'm trying to copy her. It's a mess. But let me explain. Like....5 years ago, I found Jen's site. I had been drawing since I was like 4, but I sucked. Like...BAD. I was decent for my age, but I wanted to get better. I had a huge drive to get better. I wanted nothing more. And when I accidently discovered Jen, I was in awe. Utter awe. It's amazing to me to see how much we BOTH have improved since the earliest days I first started to make contact with her. I joined her Toonapalooza! message board in 2001 and grew up, literally, in her community. Jen was so much fun to talk to, and such an inspiration. She always knew what to say when I was facing troubles, or to ANYONE, for that matter. She has a big heart and one heck of a sense of humor as well. And she makes a great friend. :) I remember during a tough time I had, she sent me a postcard with artwork scrawled on it and words of encouragement. I was so happy and honored. And once, she sent me a book on how to cheer up, and wrote me a letter, and on my 16th birthday, she sent me a card and offered a free art request as a present. Jen is awesome. I'm nothing compared to her. That's why I find it amusing when people confuse me for her.
