Instrument Tips and Techniques: Piano and Keyboards Forum: Making Better Backing

Just a quick plea for help I suppose. Also I hope this is posted in vaguely the right place... Anyhoo, after hearing some of what other SheezyArt users had come up with for their compositions I realised that much of what my left hand was doing when I composed or improvised, was in fact kind of boring. Usually I'd just find the right 3 or sometimes 4 note chords and then split them up in what turns out to be a pretty repetitive pattern, so how could I make them better? Any tips on appegiating stuff (I think that's right...) or other ways in which I can spice things up a bit would be appreciated. Even better, does anyone know some links to places where I could actually physically see how it works? Thanks!

Play the song over and over until you suddenly start humming a variation in... I find it works just about any place. Usually, something hits you when you're in a casual mood. I find I hit stuff at random during drive time in my car. As an Example, my song Raptor Interceptor, didn't have any Glockenspiels in it for five to six months... then I noticed I'd keep humming notes that weren't part of the song. Turned out great.
