General Photography Discussion Forum: I Need Some Advice and Opinions

OrionLeingod: I Need Some Advice and Opinions - Aug 10th 2007, 4:24AM Link | Report
Recently I have been having some troubles in deciding to submit some of my latest photos or not. I'm kinda stuck in the old days of my photography and being able to shrink things down, and now and me wanting to keep things at high res.

See i used to not care about how something looked full sized, as long as it looked good shrunk down i submitted it. And if i thought it was at least decent i would submit it. But now that i have my new camera, i don't want to touch things in photoshop, i don't want to shrink it so small to hide poor picture taking. And i also don't want to submit things i think aren't deserving.

But im starting to think im holding myself to, well, to high of standards, for my skill level. My friends and some photographers i know say i am, and im not submitting fairly good pieces, nit picking my own work just too much.

I want everyone on heres advice, i can't decide. Im not just looking for some comments and favorites, im looking for real advice. These pictures aren't even submitted anywhere anyways, only reason there on the internet is i need your advice. I can't decide if i should submit these or not, i feel it's things i've done before and just not good enough. Tell me what you think

Well, if I'm honest, I'd say that a lot of those are good photos, but not great photos.

"Illumination" is a nice photo. I love the focusing and the line of lights is quite interesting. I think this is one of the best of the one's you've posted.
In "Little Differences" I feel there's too much to look at, and there appears to be a great deal of glare on the leaves. I'd suggest not using flash in close up conditions like that, or turning it down.
"Quick Freeze" is very interesting and a really nice macro photo. It's got texture and great focus. I love the colours too.
"Starting Life Alone" is one I'm divided on. Y'see, I'm really not keen on the use of flash - it just doesn't appeal to me. While it just about works for me in this picture, I'm still not absoloutely sure.
"Rain from Below" is nice, but a little busy.

:) Hope this helped and wasn't overly harsh.
