While I understand some of you haven't seen Advent Children and may not ever see it, I must emphasize that spoilers are completely unavoidable when reading about something you're interested it. If anyone spoils the story for you, haha, you shouldn't have read past this text. [/this text]

To begin the discussion, I must say that I hate Advent Children's story. It makes no sense of Aeris' death, and it has a very different mood than the game. The game was about saving the world from big commercial industries and a guy named Sephiroth. The movie was about Cloud feeling bored and eventually getting the chance to use Omnislash on Sephy once more.

What did you think of the story overall? If you haven't seen the movie, post what you thought of the game's story.

Now, I have not yet seen the movie, but from what I've heard and seen, it is not about Cloud being bored, but rather about how he is finally able to forgive himself for the death of Aeris.

I have no arguement with the Omnislash part.

It doesn't really have a story to it. It doesn't directly follow FF7's plot either. It just seems more like a fan film than an official movie. A high quality fan film, sure, but it needs more to it. Halfway through the movie, Cid and the others suddenly appear out of nowhere to help defeat a summoned creature. Why they didn't use their own summons, I have no idea. I mean, yeah, the materia was stolen, but they should have materia equipped at all times. In the game, materia could be inserted into slots in your weapons and armor. In the movie, the bad guys just stuck it directly in their bodies. It just makes no sense.

I also found the whole tossing of cloud bit annoying, because Cid was there. Why couldn't they use Highwind!? Seriously, they used Highwind in the game to fight the huge WEAPON monsters, and the Highwind was still around in the movie (Cid brought it with him to battle), so why not use it on that big bahamut creature? Oh, yeah, that's right, they needed a way to make the battle more interesting for the idiots. <_< *sigh*

Back on the subject of Cloud being bored, yes, in the movie, he was still thinking of Aeris. However, in the game, there's some closure that makes you believe everyone accepted her death. They also hinted at her return around every corner. Cloud sees Aeris in visions throughout the movie, but she doesn't make a return. In the end, she and Zack say goodbye to Cloud and walk into a solid light outside the old chapel. Crappy ending? I think so, too.

The entire movie was obviously a huge disappointment to me.

Well thanks for giving away the ending!

Anyway, once AC comes out April 25 (well, let's hope it does) and I watch it, I'll let you know my opinion of it.

Hebi: obviously.........anyway the bad guys were able to absorb the materia - Feb 21st 2006, 5:00AM Link | Report

omg i cant believe i did that, owell here it is again: obviously.........anyway the bad guys were able to absorb the materia because of geostigma i think, using the ship wouldve shortend the scene plus cid prolly didnt want it scratched lol, what erked me was that at the end of the game cloud said he knew where they could see her again, but they didnt play off that in the movie, instead the played off his relationship with zack, and starting there own buisness aka the delivery service, another thing was only cloud and barret used there limit breaks, i wanted to see vincent go beserker on some one lol, and they shrunk tifas chest lol(<<<<dont take that seriously) anyway thats my views on it

Cloud was referring to the lifestream, as in they'd see her when they died. Plus, the english version was a poor translation at times.
instead the played off his relationship with zack, and starting there own buisness aka the delivery service
Zack didn't appear much in the game, but a lot of people wanted to know more about him. The movies are a way to include some Zack goodness for the Zack fans, I suppose? And the delivery service... eh, I don't like that idea, but it makes a little sense that they'd be the safest delivery crew in the world, because they could hold 99 of every type of package and never worry about facing opponents stronger than them (because they're the saviors of the world and defeated all the most powerful beings in existance). However, all of a sudden, we have these new enemies popping out of nowhere, and it really doesn't follow the story of the game.
another thing was only cloud and barret used there limit breaks, i wanted to see vincent go beserker on some one lol
Uhm, Vincent did shapeshift to save Cloud in a scene of the movie, but I never liked Vincent's limit breaks. They didn't help at all.
and they shrunk tifas chest lol

Yeah, well, Tifa looks sexier in the movie... at least to me.

Notice how the AC movie takes place years after the game but everyone seems younger?

I loved AC. Seeing cloud and sephiroth with mouths and eyebrows stuff was crazy. The few more pixels made me happy. The storyline was barly there, i will admit, but i still loved the movie. The fight scenes and stuff where awesome.

I planned on buying the dvd, but I decided against it, because I probably wouldn't enjoy it any more than the japanese version, which I already have. However, I must say that I saw part of the english version, and the voices are extremely cheesy... and I'm not a big fan of cheese.
