Got a question for all you's. Tales of Legendia comes out this Tuesday for the PS2. Anyone planning to get it?
I'm... personally still thinking about if I'll get it at all. It's not the PS2ness, the graphics, the single line thing (I consider the original Phantasia a God of a game, and Eternia is one of my favorite PS1 games now. I doubt the single line is going to kill me.), or the character designs (they kinda threw me off at first though.). I watched some videos, and the battle seemed... I don't know, slow. And probably like everyone else, the voices are also kind of annoying (Battle wise so far is kinda annoying. Need to really listen to event stuff. Although one event between two military people was just... gah, they suck. So bland were those two.). So I'm still considering it.

Although, if enough buy it, maybe they'll bring over Rebirth. OR ABYSS! They need to bring Abyss over or there'll be a riot, with knives. And torches. And pitchforks. *goes on*

Wanted to make an update to this.

I gave in one weekend and bought the game. Wanna know what I think 33 hours in?

FREAKING. AWESOME.

Story does seem pretty cliche, but the way you get from starting out to world destruction (each Tales game has this theme, let's face it. Course, so do most RPGs from Japan...) is... extremely interesting. It really plays with the emotions. FYI, I wanna kill two people in this game. Seriously. I will say no more.
Voice acting... might need no more work on it. Most of the voices are fairly tolerable, even Shirley's. A few spots might irk you, mostly random people. Let me say that it was all VERY well done. Was better than Eternia's.
Battle... a bit more realistic feeling I guess. It is in fact very awesome, and I enjoy it. It IS a wee bit too easy if you're not careful, ESPECIALLY on bosses. At least on hard.
I will admit some of the dungeons seem a bit drawn out. I wasn't really irked until the final two and that forest maze. I think each of the games has some forest that's hard to navigate. World map as well. It's tolerable I guess.
The last boss(main quest)... considering the previous two consequetive bosses (equals 3 bosses for the end here) can kick your ass, he's just... GOD. He is beatable, I got him down below 1/4th, but that's AFTER I only had Will and Senel left with no Life Bottles. This is still on hard.
Music is kinda nice. Not really memorable though. The quality beats any of the other games, that I will say. It can get annoying sometimes though. The special boss music is great though. Very epic sounding.

33 hours and I still have the character quests left.

Overall, it IS worth it. I recommend a buy if you're a Tales fan.

I loved opening the case and smelling that very fresh game smell.

Need to clarify something. The game's random encounters (they are high. Reminds me of Phantasia's...) are fairly easy, even on hard. Some, especially in these 'chaotic zones,' can be tough. Most of the bosses are fairly difficult (some being fricken hard.), if not hard but long.

So, I finally finished Legendia. 75 hours, 45 minutes. 75 freaking hours of some of the best gameplay I've ever had the fortune to witness. Seriously, Legendia is going to have a place of honor in my library, just for the game time alone. I almost felt like playing again immediately.

The ending was... sad really. It kinda does this whole companionship/ friends are the best thing ever in the character quests, which was annoying. But the ending to the entire game was sad. The characterization was done well. People I didn't care about in the beginning I started to like, even Shirley. The end boss is no pushover on hard by the way. I find it ironic that I finished it off with my two favorites still alive, Senel and Will. Also finished with the only Phoenix type ougi. It's... symbolic somehow.
The gameplay wasn't too bad. Although you are just fighting the monsters and going through the dungeons all over again, they're tedious in the fact you think in the back of your mind, those monsters will indeed kick your ass if you're not lucky or skilled. Even with the simplistic 3 strike-Base Eres-Arcane Eres combos that can (note, CAN, not 100% will) lock the monsters, it still takes a bit of thinking and knowledge of your moves to beat them. Some are thin in the fact you might miss, or some kind of physics will prevent you from hitting them. Mages aren't that great, never figured out how to actually 'target' with magic. I will admit Symphonia's battle system seemed better, but still Legendia's is fun.

They did leave it open in the end. It does look like there's room for a sequel. The only problem is it might involve a type of 'repeat' of Symphonia/ Phantasia/ Eternia story. I will say no more.

All in all, I loved it. The fact that it has some major length adds even more points. I recommend it if you don't mind cliche anime stories (doesn't mean it's bad. End of the main quest kept my interest. But still...). Seriously, I say, at least 99%, buy it now. DO IT!
