Ahh yes.. one of the best features in Fruity loops that lets you control effects, volume, panning, or what you want freely.
What an Automationclip really is, well.. Think of it as something that tells a certain knob (e.g the volume knob) in which position it should be
through the whole song.
So how do you create an automation clip?
Glad you asked.. or.. you didn't.. but.. ARGH!, okay.. let's say that you want an instrument at the beginning of the song that slowly fades in, that is:
the volume would constantly be rising.. What you want to do is simple.. Left-click the instrument's volume-knob which is located to the left of the instrument and then choose
"Create automation clip"
This would have the instrument's window turn empty, with just an automation clip *gasp* Don't worry though, they'll come forward again.
So, how do you implement the Automation clip into the song then?
I'm glad you asked.. again. Well, have you ever wondered what the lower section of the Playlist is for? under the patterns? Well it has two purposes which I know of.
One is that you can drag a wav or mp3 file to be played there, and the second is, yes.. you guess it.. Automation Clips!
I want you to study that picture for a moment.. I have used three Automation Clips here. The green one on the top is the Automationclip for a Filter which constantly rises.
The one in the middle Is the volume knob thing, and the third is also used on a volume knob (Don't worry, I'll let you hear the song in a moment).
You should now have clicked "Create automation clip". What you want to do know is Click a Column in the lower part of the playlist and your automation clip will be there.
(note: It's quite hard to adjust the automation clip at first, so I recommend you to Zoom in as far as you can).
What we should have is a graph that tells us when the automationclip starts, and when it ends.. You can hover the mouse over the endpoint of the line in the graph and drag it out
so it won't just cover 1 pattern. if you Right-click, you will set out an extreme-point, that is.. if you want the volume to rise, and then fade out, you have to do this: EXPERIMENT!
The ------------"o"-------------- thing in the middle of the line/graph decides the slope of the curve, just leftclick and drag up and down for different effects.
I can happily tell you that you can make an Automationclip put of EVERY SINGLE KNOB in the built in Fruity loops effects, as well as some synth-knob-preferences and so on..
I often use Automation clip to rise/lower the BPM/tempo of my songs, so it's really something you should use in your reportoire.
Oh, and this is how the song I mentioned looks: Mortal Kombat
Ant this is the zipped loop package so you can look at it yourself in Fruity loops (note: I've made it in FL 6.0, compatbility with lower versions.. I don't know:
