No one is challenging whether or not the Gospels actually happened or not, as there is a large amount of proof that 90% of the Gospels really did happen.

What's wrong with the other 10% is that the Bible does not prove that God exists. We have enough proof that Jesus, Moses, and thousands of other people in the Bible existed in real life. However, there is no proof that God was responsible for everything in the Bible and that he is exactly as the Bible depicts him as.
All religious texts get as much treatment as the other.
