What do you think happens? Better yet, what do you hope happens?

Brain activity stops and the body shuts down. After a while it begins to decompose. That's when things start to smell.

i believe that when I die, I will stand before God and every soul I have ever met or come into contact with. Every person I've ever helped or hurt, lied to or comforted, embraced or shunned. Every friend, enemy, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, patient of mine, etc. I believe that they will either stand with me or aginst me and give their own witness as to why or why not I should be admitted into heaven. Hopefully when I kick the bucket someday, my crowd will be rather large

I think that the human mind goes through a process. The brain quickens, why many people who have the near death experience say time slows down AND that they see their life flash in front of them. The human mind then determines if that individual has any regrets or not. If they do not, then the persons religion or belief plays here. Most Christians will see angels to take them away. Those who don't see demons. That's why old people at nursing homes either die peacefully or die screaming.
Next the human soul removes its self from the mind to go into the universe.

The brain will give off a few weird sensations as it shuts down and then you lose all consciousness completely. Then it'll be like it was before you were born.

I assume that the likely outcome is a complete lack of consciousness. Oblivion, if you will. It's difficult to wrap your head around that, since we're incapable of imagining true nothingness or absolute infinity. It's also a little scary, precisely because I can't imagine what it would be like.

I'm quite curious to find out what happens, though. It's a shame that when I finally kick the bucket I won't be able to share my findings.

I'll tell you another thing, though; I'm fairly sure I won't be going to hang out with the invisible sky-daddy in his celestial fun-house. Vive la atheism.

If I had to pick an afterlife, it'd probably be that one, just on account of it being totally metal. It's just a shame I'm so out of shape.
