Mirutanku: Opinions on deviantART? - Sep 4th 2009, 6:45PM

Y'know, is it a bad place to you guys? I've been seeing stuff about dA being super strict and sucky and whatnot, but really, and some people might throw random objects at my face, but I have no real problems there and I like it. The only things I don't like about it is that there's drama (but then again drama's everywhere) and the staff isn't as 'active' as the staff/cast here.
So, what are your opinions? Why do you like it? Why do you hate it? Is Sheezyart a better place to you or not?
DISCUSS.

Well DA does have a lot of close-up shots of genitals, so if you like having those in your face all the time, your choice is made for you, isn't it?

rofl, yeah. There's more famous artists on the site which is pretty cool, but the community is way bigger than this one, so instead of everyone being kind of close, there are lots of different groups. Really, it just depends on what part of the community you go to XP

I think the only people who would find it strict are hacks that try to pass off screen shots or recolours of offical art as their own creative genius. For the vast majority of people, DA is a good place. I myself love it there and I really enjoy the community. I also get the sense that it appeals to a somewhat older crowd; as in late teens and up, as opposed to early and mid teens, which can have a significant impact on the way the site develops. There is drama, agreed, this place seems a bit more streamlined to me :) as well, because this place is smaller, and maybe if the rules here are a bit more lax, then that would account for the faster/more attentive moderating.

Why would dA be stiff or anything? Or everyone being an elitist.
Yeah, I know, you see a lot of trash there, like collages that use stolen pictures - but you can always report this and action will be taken.
And, if you are one to upload such stuff ... shame on you, uploading that to an art community is a big mistake. xD (Not even trying when copypasting stolen pictures together just isn't art.)
Anyway, I can't see how dA is better or not better than Sheezy. Different communities, I guess. dA is just a tad bigger and tries to mug you into buying a subscription, but at least they are fair enough not to add stupid pop up ads. (Not that I've seen those on Sheezy but on other art communities ... seriously, it's enough if they pop up ONCE in a while but not every time you click on something!)
...
Imho the only thing that is REALLY better about dA is: the upload function works at the first try. xD (Today, some time ago, I had troubles uploading ... again.) On Sheezy it's a gamble if the upload works or not.)

Sorry that happened to you =/
I've actually seen that happen a few times because people take it up the butt and call it 'harrassment'... there are a lot of artists there that think they're so super-awesome and can never have any art that needs work.

Can't say it's better or worse than SA because I'm as new as they come for this site...
I actually kind of like it there, but that's because my opinion's sort of biased by that being the only art site I've known of for the longest time.
From my biased point of view, I could say that it's a nice internet community that's generally advanced in a lot of it's functions, and helps many lesser known artists get some serious recognition through the many groups.
On the other hand, there are a couple of admins that are seemingly going through some kind of power-trip where they don't actually pay attention to what the community has to say. There are also quite a few artists there that seem to have their heads shoved so far up their ass that they can't comprehend that their art that is ever so 'kuwai' (or however you spell that word) to some people isn't all that great to everybody else.
Basically, it has it's pros and cons, I generally like it, but I do wish that the people that are so mature there would actually grow up. =/

Haven't read every opinions yet
but i love deviantArt
why? maybe cause i like the options better, the style, don't know - just like it a lot! i'm there since 2 years. Yes i had drama, stalker, were reported but still love it. I had many probs because of the themes of my art, but that didn't stopped me to post (well mature content ftw?)
Maybe it's just me but well that's my opinion - well if i get banned, i just would open another account and find my old friends there... (and yes I'm not fare from beeing banned lol)
I meet many great people there, it's always nice to talk about art, share ideas, make some art trades or collaborations, sell my art and design my journals (i'm a subscriber there and yes i pay for it, it's not that much but i'm so addicted that i would pay almost everything)
dA is like my homepage
and yes there are people who steal art, copy or use it as myspace with many MANY pics of themself (and i'm wondering where the art is in there) BUT i guess many art-websites are like that. Can guess this page has that too?
and I love getting critique (which i can get easily with my "request Critique" button on dA), that's what me annoyed when people just comment with "wow that's amazing" that doesn't help me to improve with art
but that isn't only for dA of course
well and why am i here when i love dA that much? good questions
I guess i just that i want to share my art with other people, attention? make my artistname popular? who knows....
I joined today - so let's see what happen - otherwise i just delete my account/artworks and leave

agreed to nearly what everyone said.
It really IS a matter of pros and cons
If I had to choose a site though
it'd probably be deviantART
most of my friends and my artistic passion began there.

O_o i mean what bullshit is that? of coarse iam banned from deviantart which i dont care at all cuz here on sheezyart its peaceful here :3 ,i really never had within a year had any bad trouble with any sheezyart users before in y life which is great!!, and plus its much better here like for instance you can like delete bad comments on your profile or one of your artwork :) which is cool ,on deviantart you cant do that which is why that community sucks balls!!!but the weirdest thing is that sheezyart doesnt have a block system on all of the other sheezyart profiles ive seen.
