0filia: What makes up a good artist? - Jul 17th 2009, 3:18AM Link | Report
Who actually defines or even judge he/she as a good artist?
Must they have a "X-factor" to be a great artist?
I realised that "good" artist are the ones that are arrogant and etc. This is where they get their confidence from =3=
So to you, what makes up a good artist?

At least to me,
Sharing of arts and nurturing artist is my goal in life!

Only the public can decide whether or not an artist is good or not.

However, the artist must always make their own original work, as in they must create their work by themselves and not color over someone else's work, for them to become a good artist.

Majorally its the public.

But usually, a good artist is based on originality, and how well they apply the principles of art. And that applies to every artist, even musicians, and actors.

I agree with the originality. I think a good artist is someone who takes the art to heart, and wants to improve.

They pretty much said it.

You don't need the "skillz" to be a good artist. Ok.. maybe some basis on how the operate/work in your area (music, writing, drawing) but above all you must like what you do and do not be "stuck" to what other people like.
For instances... Making fan art only doesn't make you a "good artist". But sadly that's what we see out there. Just because a certain character is "cool" and everyone adores it, then if you draw it you are the king of the world. No, not, never. Originality is the key word. And I do not mean create a fantastic pose for an existing character. I mean, create a character of your own, give it a personality of it's own, be a mom/dad! xD
*I'm not baning fanart... I'm just saying that there are many people out there that just "live" for it... C'mon! Get out of that box! =D*

There is no such thing as a good artist.

An artist is someone...who has the ability to capture what he or she is feeling...and allows people to see the very soul of the one who creates the art. The term (good artist) is commonly used to refer to artists who create things that people like or they possess such skills that allow them to create wonderfully accurate
designs such as realistic people or other world objects...but in reality...a "good" artist is one who is able to create something that reflects the person who made it!

Draw anime.

and Sonic the Hedgehog fancharacters.

You get a bonus if you make a strange combination of the two.

(dont forget to save in .jpeg format!)

I think saving it as a TIFF would be a better option. Or a GIF.

yeah why are "good" artists the ones who think they can sh*t all over everyone else? Like for realz. I kind of agree with a previous post of "There is no such thing as a good artist." I think its all in the views of the people: what is YOUR definition of good? and definition of artist? stuff like that. I think ppl who draw fan art that are considered "good"...well I mean they could be...but originality kicks more butt. Fan art is fun to look at and relate to but....originality can push you over that edge if its time.

Of course, the views of a good artist depend on many levels, such as what the public views as good art, what's mainstream, how social/non social you are, etc.

A TRULY good artist, imo, is someone who finds a passion in art and has faith in what they can do. Someone who really loves to draw.
I don't think people who bash on others because their original art is 'worse' is a good artist, and I don't think that people who change pictures and say it's theirs a good artist, either. Heck, that's not even an artist. People abuse the term "Artist" so much that some people forget the meaning of it.

well on a practicall sense artistic skill would maybe be determined by how realistic the piece looks, but then look at picaso....

That's sadly horribly closed minded. And to only take Picasso into consideration? With the thousands of artists modern AND the past that had far from realistic work.

On the topic, I guess it depends o each person. For me I go by mostly effort, process, and concept. :T

In my personal opinion, being a great artist includes aptitudes for improvisation, deviation, and implications, in any context. Be it subject, style, material, or anything of the sort. It can't really be specified too concretely.
