I am 100 percent in favor of the intelligent use of drugs, and 1,000 percent against the thoughtless use of them, whether caffeine or LSD. And drugs are not central to my life.

Just treat it like alcohol, make it legal with reasonable restrictions (no lighting up while driving, etc) We should stop spending so much energy fighting drugs. Who really cares about some kid in his basement watching the walls melt?

It's a miracle crop, in regards to hemp anyway. It can be used to make clothing, archival grade paper (that should save some trees), it actually makes soil *better* and is a great rotation crop. I have no interest in smoking it, but it seems like the negative aspects of it are largely overblown/unfounded.
Not to mention it might give that money-hemorrhaging state California some much needed revenue.

I basically agree, word for word, with the Amazing Toaster.
...I always knew I'd say that at some time in my life.

When talking of regulating behaviour, the first thing to ask is, 'where is the harm?'. In the context of cannabis, one would normally look to the scientific evidence. Harm, as I'm talking about, usually refers to a detriment or negative impact on one's life. Now, considering that in countries like the United States and other nations where some "drugs" are legal and others not, we have to ask ourselves WHY. WHY is one drug legal and another illegal? Why is it okay to get so drunk that someone gets into a fight, or gets behind the wheel and kills someone else, and at the same time denounce a drug which is scientifically proven to be less harmful?
My point is that its not a matter of any one particular drug, it SHOULD be the matter of what makes sense. IF over use of marijuana fries someone's brain then it is bad. IF someone smokes until they get cancer, or gambles their house away, etc, etc, those things are bad. Cannabis is ONLY as bad as a) the scientific evidence suggests AND OR b) what the society in question makes it out to be.
