Xiao Feng Fury: Christianity: The two greatest commadments (when taken out of context) - Apr 27th 2009, 11:10PM

Most non-Christians are very familiar with the two greatest commandments which are found in Mark 12:29-31
"Jesus answered, The first and principal one of all commands is: Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord;
And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your [c]life) and out of and with all your mind (with [d]your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength. [e]This is the first and principal commandment.(A) The second is like it and is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."(B) I'm sure everyone knows about the Miss California/Perez Hilton incident. To make it short, Hilton didn't like Miss Cali's answer to his question about same sex marriage, and he went into a fit and defamed Miss Cali on youtube etc. Miley Cyrus, who also claims to be a Christian, came to Hilton's defense saying: "Ya that's lame! God's greatest commandment is to love. And judging is not loving. That's why Christians have such a bad rep."
And here is when the two great commandments are taken out of context. Number one: YES, God commands that we should love everyone.(1 John 4:7~Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.)Number two: loving your neighbors and friends does NOT mean to partake with their sinfulness, or to support their immoral agendas. DO NOT compromise your faith for the world (speaking specifically to Christians) Number 3: There is such a thing as righteous judgment---and I'm not talking about hypocritical judging, but uh...this really has nothing to do with judging (Nor was Miss Cali being judgmental when she gave her opinion) And Number 4: Christians give Christianity a bad rep at times. Some Christians really are too judgmental, angry, ungrateful, prideful, self-righteous, envious, etc. We aren't perfect, we're still human; we need God, too. That is why we repent. BUT if a christian REALLY wanna give Christianity a bad rep, just do this: compromise your faith, don't preach the gospel, give in to fear, whine and complain about how unfair life is, sin like there's no tomorrow...and support Perez Hilton for defaming Miss California. So yeah. LOVE EVERYONE, forgive those who curse you to no end, BUT PLEASE do not compromise your faith for the likes of immorality.

"Judging is not loving"? It really would help if people would get a proper definition of "Love" as it's being used in those commandments so they can see that you MUST be discerning in order to honor and discipline oneself to follow God's Laws, rules, and customs.

Telling people the nice things they want to hear is not love when it only leads them to Hell. According to God, I must and do believe that other religions are false and Hell bound (And y'all please understand, I'm talking about the Christianity of the Bible- when the Bible is taken in proper context, OT and NT). If I tell a person "Aww, it's ok that you believe in Satan- we just believe different things!" isn't doing any good for their soul. If you love someone, you'd want them to know the truth of Heaven. Right?
---
Not being quick to judge is when you see a married lady with a black eye and don't automatically assume her husband beat her We all need to be slow and careful in judging.

You're not going to be able to make everyone follow Christianity. There are people like me who will read the bible and find that they don't want to be a Christian, and find that other religions are more appealing to them.

I know, who would want someone who's only in it for himself anyway? When you really consider the point of Christianity, it becomes clear that attempting to recruit them is a tad shallow. They'd fall away as soon as the goings got tough, and one's time would be better spent getting those who are actually interested in being correct, or those who will at least follow God for the right reasons.

Right. All I can do is present what I know to be true. People can take it or leave it.

You should not just going around telling people that their entire beliefs are wrong however. That only causes problems.

"Logic" is more of a matter of opinion, and historical evidence also proves that many religions are right.
Also, how is it your "responsibility" to judge how other people live their lives.

I do know what I am talking about.
Logic ultimately comes down to a person's belief system. For example, scientists have yet to figure out how a bee manages to fly despite the scientific evidence that the bee's structure should make it impossible to be able to fly.
A person who believes in God, may follow the logic that the bee is able to fly because it's a miracle that God created. However, an atheist may follow the logic that the bee ability to fly stems from a currently unknown scientific principle.
The trouble with this situation is that you can't prove which side is right.
