Please don't yell at me for saying this but it's just a thought that came through my head What the point of having a icon, most people put a really cool picture as one and it's not even their art. It's just a picture that they downloaded or something. For me i use icon as a preview like "this is something i drew, you like it then come to my gallery i have more. But with most people they use someone else's art an when i click it, I become really disappointed. Not saying it wrong but i got on this topic because someone was complaining on another site that someone had the exact same icon as she had, but the thing about that is both of them got it off of Google, when i told her this she snapped at me.. so what the point.

Icons are wonderful little things! You can use them to make yourself visually identifiable, to show people a little bit of you, or otherwise look funny or interesting.

Why do we have icons? Because people on the internet are too lazy to read user names. (plus what McBob said)

I dunno bout yall, but I always thought they were called avatars... lol ANYWAY, an avatar shows a picture of a character that supposedly represents the user's personality---something like an alter ego. The guy i currently have on my avatar? Well, he's my favorite OC for now. The only thing I have in common with my OC is that we're both weird. XB And, well, yeah I also use my avatars/icons to lure people to my gallery.

It's still expressive of their personality though, kind of like choosing a wallpaper that you didn't necessarily make yourself. It doesn't really have to be something you [i]made[/i] to serve as something that represents you on the internet.
