I don't get it either, a generation before us raped the land and took everything and they expect us to not. and the people who are telling us to do it are the rich people who own private jets.

...Wow.
Making a stand over the environment isn't something done for the planet. The planet is a big old hunk of rock that'll die one day whether global warming gets out of hand or not, or whether trees are cut down are not. That's not the issue at hand.
The issue at hand is us. If we don't do shit about the environment, humans will fucking die. Or at least be really inconvenienced.
Oh, and other animals too. But mostly, it's that I, and anyone else who's going to live for a while, would rather not grow to live in a really hot world which is heavily deforested and polluted.

No shit sherlock. So will you, eventually. Hell, everyone on this thread will die sooner or later. So to say "If we don't do something about the environment, humans will die" You're supporting that if we DO do something about the environment, humans would live forever. Brilliant.

Wait, what?
Nobody ever said that we'd all become magically immortal by hugging trees. All I said was that people will die if we don't do anything about the environment, which, if a bit of an exaggeration, is mostly valid. If I had said that we could all live forever by caring about the environment, you'd have a point, but as it is, I never mentioned immortality, and it would probably be a lot better if you tried reading the posts you respond to, thanks.
Anyway, ignoring how horridly stupid that bit of your post was, if you honestly think that, "We're all going to die," is an honest excuse for not caring about the quality of life, then go live on the streets. Quality of life doesn't matter, we're all going to die.

Humans tend to "overcare" about things, which has its own disasterous consequences.
Take deer for example. Areas where they are not allowed to be killed, they run wild, destroy vegetation, overeat the food supply, and cause other havoc you'd expect from an unbalanced eco system. It has wide-ranging consequences well past the annoyance to those who may wish to grow a garden in their back yard.
And you have the anti-logging movement and the spotted-owl hoax, which keep the forests from being thinned out (because most responsible loggers don't go in and fucking strip the place as the environmentalists would have you believe), which allows of course wildfires that get worse and worse every year because the trees and underbrush aren't cleared out. (Oh and all this fire of course leads to increase in "greenhouse gases", so if you believe in global warming blame the treehuggers for it - not to mention the termites.) The wildfires that sweep the west every year could largely be diminished simply by letting in some loggers and a few thousand goats, no joke.
It's ironic that people treat the environment like some little child and try to protect it from getting "boo-boos", when really humans don't know enough to tell what even constitutes an environmental boo-boo. We can barely keep on top of weather, but we presume to be able to guess the long term effects of styrofoam and carbon dioxide? No, we just have some bizarre "evil god" complex - we are terrible and all our deeds lead to destruction, because we are so mighty and corrupt. It's sad to watch.

Fire? Yes. Some trees depend on fire to be able to propogate. It also adds nutrients back into the soil, etc.
Fire on a ridiculously increasing scale, maybe not so much.
