i would have to think that you are slightly misunderstood. i don't know if you've ever had access to the deviantART NDA, but you cannot cross it and remain an administrator. deviantART has let administrators go for various infractions against both TOS and NDA, but these aren't widely publicized (the nature of the NDA is to be quiet about things, not to publically flog anyone for actions that they committed either intentionally or otherwise).
as for "sticking up for their friends"; deviantART is fairly clear that issues between the artist and the administration should be between just those two. if there is an issue between artists and there is a flame war across userpages/forums/notes, it is dealt with from the point of view of the etiquette policy. deviantART doesn't ban users simply because some administator on high decides that the user should be banned. most of the commentary re: users and bans is kept from becoming public because there is no reason for the public audience to have access to that. does sheezyart have a policy regarding privacy between administration and users? i am sure yours is the same when it comes to privacy of contact between artist and admin.
there is no such thing as "freedom of speech" on the internet. deviantART's "freedom of speech" is regulated by clearly stated policies, not by Unites States constitutional guarantees. deviantART is an international website that is incorporated in the United States. as such it follows US copyright laws, however freedom of speech is a non-issue; it is not a government website, it is a corporate website w/ thousands of users.
So you are against freedom of speech and expression then? I know about eight users ready to ditch any financial support for DA due to absolute lack of customer support, respect, and snotty arrogant attitude. That many people tell a good deal about DA itself, and if the Jackoff didn't have his head shoved so far up his rectum and was so filled with self adoration they might see it.
The first two items in the etiquette policy is undermined by the remainder of the page... which is extremely vague and open to any interpretation anyone cares to give it at the time. It's like republican double-speak. I can see why freedom of anything might trouble you fascists.
When I was harassed over my sexual orientation I was yelled at by the help desk for standing my own ground as I sought help. When my deviations started getting deleted for imagery any farm boy might see in his back yard I was ridiculed by admin and told to basically shut up and if I didn't like it I could leave. When I was banned for allegedly threatening someone for telling me that killing a mother wolf from a plane and leaving the pups to starve was a good way to get more wolves... I told him I wished that someone would gut shoot him and leave him to die while his family helplessly looked on... so he would see what he was saying from a practical perspective... it was no threat! While I was banned I could not make changes to the prints account I had paid for and therefore couldn't make the prints I had promised a friend. When someone copied my Wolf icon and sold it to another DA user, my complaint went completely ignored. You people help who you feel like helping – no shit! You can't even see how corrupt DeviantFART has become. I've had three friends banned for simply telling you assholes what they think… you snuff off anyone who doesn't treat you like your shit smells nice. So if people feel they have to go somewhere else to complain there's no surprise. I could go on and on with the corruption, but what's the point? You're in tin god denial. You're all stuck on your own perfect beauty and can see no farther.
Lately I've been stalked by someone on my watch list who made a snide comment about a journal entry about my recovery after I just underwent major heart surgery... and this same person had harassed me on multiple instances before by tracking my watch list… but you holier than holies wont even provide paying users a way to block stalkers. Insisting we complain to the help desk and then chewing us out or ignoring us for days when we do.
The help desk basically told me to get fucked when I complained and asked that this person be removed from my watch list. But as soon as I retaliated by making a satirical poll about this person, I'm told my account is going to be indefinitely suspended. I've supported DA financially for over 9 months and have been harassed and hounded by the admin, denied freedom to express myself on multiple occasions, and generally treated like shit by everyone on site except my own friends. I've had enough of your half-assed con job! I don't care if you ban me and steal another two months of membership from me. You'll see no more support from me thieves!
i am not personally against freedom of speech and expression. neither is deviantART. just read the policies and abide by them. why do you believe that deviantART and/or it's administration are fascist? the use of that term does nothing but reinforce the belief that the people making allegations against the site or administration are not accurate.
deviantART cannot remove anyone from anyone's watchlist. it is not YOUR watch list, it is the other users'. once you are banned from deviantART you forfeit any use of the deviantART subscription or other systems (so far as i know). avatars on deviantART are not policed. if your avatar is definably your OWN work that YOU produced and have proof for, taking that information to the helpdesk would illicit a response, provided it was not in the form of "OMG you idiots!!! y r u no removing that avatary!!!". no one wants to put up with that shit, least of all people that volunteer their time.
by the way, everything is judged on a case by case basis with deviantART. it would be nice if you showed the staff that same courtesy. not everyone is part of the "evil empire" you are describing.

Yeah... that's the kind of attitude I generally get from DA... a shrug. This is why I have no respect for your authority, you abuse it through a façade of indifference and an attitude of "we own your ass."
Shrug all you want, Rome though it was something special too... you will fail and it won't be very long. Soon all you'll have is incessant trouble makers and people wanting to leave their mark on a tin god.
Everything is judged case by case... in other words there is no level playing field and thus little or no respect for or from any of you. My attitude was put in place by DA's corruption and lack of customer service. My anger is as righteous as anyone who pays for a service and fails to be treated like a customer and get what has been paid for.
I have reported DA to the BBB… I suggest others who have paid and failed to get adequate service do the same. Soon the bad reputation will close their credit card handling support and they'll be labeled as a high risk business. This is what DA is. Their owner even has a fancy address in Hollywood CA but lives in Japan… probably some kind of tax evasion going on as well that should be investigated by the IRS.
I operate 10 of my own web domains merely for something to keep me busy. I'm an old dog… I wasn't born yesterday… I'm almost twice the age of Jarkoff and I've been around the block some… so shrug. I am rather ashamed I didn't see this shit before it hit the fan.
I have received nothing but abuse from DA staff since the first time I contacted them for help - with maybe two exceptions. The first admin I met flamed me on the forum completely without regard... he eventually apologized. I have some personal respect for him and one other... although there is never anything these people can do to help me because there is always some other admin over them who has said no. When you are banned and have a grievance with a DA admin you can't even seek out an impartial party to plead too... all you have is the person who banned you and like they haven't already made up their mind; this IS fascism!

I don't care about DA anymore. I've left it for good because it is like wallowing with liars and thieves. I was able to express my absolute contempt for it there and now here, so I'm finished with it and this is the last I have to woof.
I attended a community called Wolfhome about three years ago who had the exact same methods as DA does today... they are now a black spot on the internet; they are gone. Eventually you'll all grow tired of the shit because you're so wrapped up in yourselves to admit your errors and mend your policies... the fuck-show will fall into the dirt and has already started to slip on the slippery downward slope.
Darn it I was in Hollywood CA just this summer. I shoude of looked in the phone books when I was at the hotel get their number and then I can call them and tell them what I relly think of the site.
