My first try at cake decorating. I made the roses all by hand with marizpan and food dye. Marzipan tastes like almond butter, but has the consistency of sticky clay. It makes a fun, and edible, sculpting material. The rest of the decor was made of a cominating of dyed red royal icing, buttercream frosting, and dark chocolate shavings. The base is a light pound cake (the pound cake batter was whipped a minute or two longer so as to make it "lighter", but not low-fat).
