This is a return-tribute drawing for Johannes (a D.A. friend/fellow artist) who's art has always inspired me to pick up a pen and draw. I don't know what it is about his pieces that makes me feel creative, but I thought this would be a proper "Thank You". So there he is, battling a sketch that came to life by drawing a shield in the air to protect himself from fire. The ink pens in the corner represent his chosen medium.

I sketched and colored this using Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet. I tried to use cross-hatching and hatching techniques here and there to give it a nice traditional feel. I then ran the drawing through a watercolor filter,.... not because it couldn't stand on it's own, but because that's the look I was going for from the very beginning. It took me about two days to complete. I had fun with this one. I really needed a fantasy piece between the technical car drawings. This was a great break. I hope Johannes likes it. I'm not sure how much this looks like him, but I tried to look at his self portrait and one of the photos in his gallery. It was hard to decipher the proper facial features. If he ever decides to post a recent photo, I'll adjust this piece accordingly.

The figures are beautifully detailed, your time is well spent. I love the traditional look to it. The overall concept is gorgerous too.

You know, sometimes I'm just at a loss for words, with your work. Usually, there's something very specific about the image that I love in particular, or something I can critique... But your art? No, I just love it all.

Cool pair!

It's hard to express the awsomness of this... the whole concept is a bit rare...

Oh...WOW. I have to say it, I LOVE when someone manages to do digital work so good you don't even realize it's digital. The crosshatching served you well here! It really proves my point that one should be fully competent in the traditional media before attempting digital stuff (with the exception of those with certain physical disabilities). And as an avid reader/writer, I LOVE the idea of a storybook coming to life!

Check in my gallery. I'm more of a traditional artist than a digital one, though I'm really starting to get into digital painting lately. Drawing is what I do best.
