Well, to guess, I would say not that it is wrong per se your shading style diminishes the work. It distracts rather than provide illusion. First read up on light logic and shading with pencils and then try to follow their suggestions. Try to shade uniformly evenly when the tone is the same lighter or heavier as needed. Either learn to make straight lines better freehand or use a ruler. Draw a sketch lightly to make easier the erasing of mistakes then maybe carefully go over the completely sketch outline with appropriate darker lines if needed or desired.
