Chapter 1 Blades, Lightning and Sake.
So you want to here the story of the swordsman Night Lancer, well I guess the best place to begin would be in the beginning. It all started one night with a tall figure draped in shadow standing at the entrance to a small temple compound in Japan that we all know very well.
%u201CHmm, this looks cosy,%u201D said the Shadow. %u201CA Temple, and there seems to be something of divine energy floating around. Hmm maybe I%u2019ll pay them a visit.%u201D
%u201CGood morning Bell-Chan,%u201D yawned Keichii as he walked into the kitchen.
%u201CMorning Keichii,%u201D Belldandy replied as she walks over and hugged him.
%u201CWhat%u2019s for breakfast this morning?%u201D Keichii asked.
%u201CHot English muffins with te%u2026%u201D she replied just as she dropped the cup from her hand and it shattered on the floor. %u201CThere%u2019s something here and it%u2019s not a god nor is it a demon. There seems to be a bit of mortal and something else to.%u201D
Just then the bell rang.
%u201CTold ya,%u201D replied Belldandy as she ran down the hall with Keichii, Skuld and Urd behind her. They ran out the front door to see a man standing at the entrance. He looked in his late teens early twenties and was wearing a heavy black trench coat with black pants, hiking boots, long blonde hair with a long purple bandana wrapped around his head, partially hidden under his hair and what looked like the hilt of a katana and its holder was held over his back with a long, black, leather strap.
%u201CYes, may I help you?%u201D asked Belldandy politely.
%u201CAhh yes you can,%u201D said the man just as Benpie the robot came around the corner.
%u201CTarget located. Analysing%u2026fifty percent mortal human energy fifty percent unknown. Attack all unknown life forms attack all unknown life forms, attack all unknown life forms,%u201D said Benpie as he charges the man with arms outstretched.
Luckily the man jumped out the way just in time. He drew his sword and yelled. %u201CCome and get me you bucket of bolts!%u201D as Benpie swung around for another charge. %u201COk if ya want it that way,%u201D said the man in a relaxed voice as he charged the mecha, he swang his sword and stoped with his weapon out stretched as Benpie stoped and the mecha%u2019s head rolled of its shoulders and landed on the ground with a massive thump. The man returned his weapon to its original place, turned around and said, %u201CPathetic.%u201D
%u201CBenpie!%u201D yelled Skuld as she ran towards the decapitated remains of her mecha. %u201CYou killed him, whoever you are!%u201D
%u201CWell if you let me explain my self instead of sicking your psychotic robot on me I would tell you who I am!%u201D yelled the man who was undoubtedly pissed off by the kind of welcome he got.
%u201CYeah!%u201D Skuld retaliated.
%u201CYeah!%u201D yelled the man back.
%u201CQuiet!%u201D yelled Belldandy, trying to get control of the situation. %u201COne, Skuld you shouldn%u2019t set Benpie on auto attack like that and two, mister, don%u2019t yell at my sister like that.%u201D
%u201CSister, that ain%u2019t good,%u201D thought the man.
%u201COk if you would be so kind as to come indoors,%u201D said Keichii, who was trying to get a hold of the situation, %u201Cyou can explain yourself. Bell-Chan if you could sort out her,%u201D he said while pointing to a now extremely upset Skuld, who was clutching Benpie%u2019s severed head, %u201Cand you can leave that sword out doors. I don%u2019t know about Urd but I%u2019d like to keep my head.%u201D
%u201CSure. Mind if I smoke?%u201D he asked.
%u201CYeah I don%u2019t, but my girlfriend does,%u201D replied Keichii.
%u201COK,%u201D said the man as he, Keichii and Urd walked into the tearoom.
%u201CAlright,%u201D said Keichii, %u201Cwho are you and why have you come here?%u201D
%u201CThey call me Night Lancer and I%u2019m actually here ta talk with the divines of this household,%u201D Night Lancer replied.
%u201CD%u2026 Di %u2026 Divines,%u201D stuttered Urd completely surprised by Night Lancer%u2019s reply. %u201CHow do you know about that, who told you?%u201D
%u201CNobody told me, I can sense you three,%u201D said Night Lancer.
%u201CHow? No mortal can,%u201D asked Urd.
%u201CI know, because I ain%u2019t no normal mortal, you see I%u2019m half human and half Spiran,%u201D replied Night Lancer.
%u201CSpiran, Oh that ain%u2019t good.%u201D Urd said while putting one hand to her forehead.
%u201CWhat, what%u2019s going on?%u201D yelled Keichii who had completely lost the plot.
%u201CHow, Spira is a completely different world?%u201D asked Urd
%u201CI don%u2019t know,%u201D replied Night Lancer. %u201CNever met me father, my Katana is the only thing that proves that he was here and my mother died about three years ago, killed by a demon who was looking for my father. When my mother didn%u2019t tell him he killed her. But before she died she told me about who I really am. Shortly after she died I found this sword, packed up my life and left in search of the mada fucka who killed my old lady. When I find him I%u2019ll turn him into sushi. Then, about two years ago there was this massive shot of some sort of energy signature. I followed it to its source which led me here.%u201D
%u201CWow! What a sad story,%u201D said Belldandy who was now standing at the door. Obviously she had found out a way to calm down Skuld.
%u201CHang on. Did you say two years ago?%u201D asked Keichii who was trying to remember what happened two years ago.
%u201CKeichii, don%u2019t you remember what me and Skuld so kindly did for you and Belldandy. Or have you already forgotten?%u201D asked Urd. %u201CRemember it got me a thirty day licence suspension.%u201D
%u201CYeah, he he the look on your face was priceless,%u201D laughed Keichii.
%u201CShut up!%u201D yelled Urd at Keichii who was on his back laughing at the memory of Urd%u2019s and Skuld%u2019s faces when they got their sentence from the almighty.
%u201CWell I guess well be having a new person staying with us now?%u201D asked Belldandy.
%u201CHeck no, I%u2019ve got my own apartment about an hour walk from here.%u201D Replied Night Lancer.
%u201COh, OK,%u201D answered Urd who was now taking swigs from a new bottle of sake (her third for the morning).
%u201CAh, sake you%u2019ve got good taste,%u201D said Night Lancer.
%u201CYou drink?%u201D asked Urd.
%u201CA bit,%u201D replied Night Lancer.
%u201CWant a glass?%u201D offered Urd.
%u201COk,%u201D answered Night Lancer.
Several hours and sake bottles later, Night Lancer was passed out on the floor and Urd was completely loaded and laughing hysterically at the now unconscious Night Lancer. Skuld was still in her labs reattaching Benpei%u2019s head and Keichii and Belldandy were sitting in a quiet corner of the temple compound relaxing.
%u201CSo?%u2019 asked Keichii.
%u201CSo, what?%u201D replied Belldandy.
%u201CWhat do you think of him?%u201D
%u201CWell, it%u2019s about his saying that he%u2019s a demon hunter,%u201D replied Belldandy. %u201CDemons are 10 dimensional beings. There%u2019s no way he could hit let alone kill it.%u201D
%u201CI guess %u2026 I guess we%u2019ll have to see it for ourselves,%u201D said Keichii.
%u201CKeichii you%u2019re so simple minded %u2026and that%u2019s one of the reasons I love you,%u201D replied Belldandy as she reached over and hugged him, while in the background Urd%u2019s ever-louder drunken laughter echoed across the temple compound.
%u201CAhh, great. Your sister is drunk again,%u201D complained Keichii. %u201CWell, might as well go and calm her down.%u201D
%u201CI guess,%u201D replied Belldandy. %u201CI wonder what happened to our guest?%u201D
%u201CShe%u2019s probably drunk him under the table four times by now,%u201D answered Keichii as the two walked over to the direction of the laughter.
%u201CHa ha ha ha!%u201D laughed Urd. %u201CLook at him %u2026 hic %u2026 it%u2019s only eight bottle of mi stronged vintage %u2026 hic %u2026 %u2018n %u2018es %u2018llready o %u2026 hic %u2026 hic %u2018is %u2018ack.%u201D
%u201COh god,%u201D said Keichii. %u201CNight Lancer you Ok.%u201D
%u201CUhhhh!%u201D groaned a now half-conscious drunken Night Lancer from somewhere in the corner of the room. %u201CWhere%u2019s the puke bucket? I wanna get off this ride.%u201D
%u201CAhh, two doors down the hall to the left,%u201D replied a surprised Belldandy. %u201CUrd, just exactly how much did he drink?%u201D
Urd just sat there laughing and held up four fingers.
%u201COhh shit, I%u2019m surprised that he can withstand one bottle of this stuff let alone four,%u201D replied Keichii as he picked up a bottle which read %u201CVintage 1824 Sake (Strong Urd Style).%u201D He passed it to Belldandy who shot an angry glance at Urd, while in the background they could hear the sound of someone throwing up.
%u201CUrd! You know that you shouldn%u2019t let mortals touch this stuff!%u201D yelled Belldandy
%u201CBut it was %u2026hic%u2026 so funny. Besides, he%u2019s half Spiran. He%u2019s %u2026hic%u2026 got a better resistance to alcohol compared to mortals,%u201D replied Urd still half drunk.
%u201CI don%u2019t care, he%u2019s half mortal too which lowers his Spiran alcohol resistance,%u201D retaliates Belldandy.
Um Belldandy you seem to have things under control here, I%u2019ll go check on Night Lancer,%u201D said Keichii as he backed out of the room, cautious of the divine family fight going on. He walked down the hallway and into the bathroom to see a half passed out Night Lancer slumped against the wall.
%u201CHow ya feelin%u2019?%u201D asked Keichii
%u201CLike total, utter shit,%u201D replied Night Lancer in a half-awake voice.
%u201COk,%u201D Replied Keichii just as Belldandy walked through the door. %u201CSo what happened to Urd?%u201D
%u201CWell she%u2019s gone off to her room to sober up a bit and we%u2019ll take it from there,%u201D replied Belldandy. %u201CHow%u2019s Night Lancer feeling?%u201D
%u201CIn his words, %u2018Like total utter shit%u2019,%u201D answered Keichii.
%u201CNo surprise after what he drank,%u201D replied Belldandy sympathetically.
%u201CI%u2019ll be out in about five or so minutes,%u201D said Night Lancer from the corner of the bathroom.
%u201COk,%u201D replied Keichii, but as he turned to signal Belldandy to leave he saw his girlfriend had a very startled look on her face. %u201CWhat%u2019s wrong Bell-Chan?%u201D
%u201CThis is bad,%u201D she replied fearfully.
%u201CWhat%u2019s bad?%u201D asked Keichii.
%u201CSHIT! NOT AGAIN!%u201D yelled Night Lancer as, still half drunk, he ran down the hallway, grabbed has Katana and ran out the door.
%u201CWhat%u2019s all that yelling out here!%u201D yelled Skuld, who was standing at the front of the entrance to her labs %u201CI%u2019m trying to concentrate in here.%u201D as Night Lancer ran past grabbed his Katana and swang it over his shoulder.
%u201CI hate these mada fuckers,%u201D said Night Lancer as he stepped out side to see a person standing in a clearing in the compound. This man was wearing a white singlet, long trousers and had a rather large build.
%u201CYes?%u201D asked Night Lancer, as if he already knew what was going to happen.
%u201CAhh the legendary Night Lancer, he he he, I%u2019m here for that bounty on your head,%u201D replied the person.
%u201CYea you and every other fuckin demon in existence!%u201D yelled Night Lancer as he reached for the hilt of his Katana and drew it. %u201CSo%u2026 I%u2019m in a good mood to day. How would you like to die? Decapitation or rough divide?%u201D
%u201CI don%u2019t think so,%u201D replied the demon as he extended his hand and a ball of energy formed in it. %u201CYou see I%u2019m not like those others you killed, I%u2019m much stronger then the others, I%u2019m a First class, Unlimited, Unrestricted.%u201D
%u201CYea%u2026 just like the past three others I wiped out,%u201D replied Night Lancer in his normal cocky attitude.
%u201CWhat!%u201D yelled the demon, %u201Cthat%u2019s it you%u2019re dead!%u201D He fired the energy ball at Night Lancer who easily jumped to the side and dodged it.
%u201CNight Lancer, he%u2019s a first class demon, you don%u2019t stand a chance!%u201D yelled Belldandy.
%u201CIt%u2019s ok Belldandy, I eat pathetic mada fuckers like him for breakfast,%u201D replied Night Lancer while dodging energy blasts, one of which burnt his hair.
%u201CHang on a sec, are you the Belldandy, as in Belldandy the goddess slut who fell in love with a pathetic mortal named Morisato Keichii?%u201D said the demon cruelly.
%u201CS%u2026 S%u2026 Slut, how dare you call my younger sister a slut!%u201D yelled Urd, who was now standing at the door to the temple house. Obviously she had heard the explosions and yelling from her room and come to investigate. %u201CI%u2019m going to shove a lightning up your ass!%u201D
%u201CIts all right Urd, I%u2019ve got every thing under contro%u2026 Ahh!%u201D replied Night Lancer while ducking to avoid another energy ball flying at his head. %u201CHay you mind, you could have done some major damage that time.%u201D
%u201CThat%u2019s%u2026 what%u2026 I%u2019m%u2026 trying to do,%u201D replied the demon while going trigger happy with his energy. %u201CIf you would just stand still I%u2019ll make this as painful as possible.%u201D
%u201CDahh, fuck you,%u201D replied Night Lancer, while charging the demon with his Katana ready to strike. %u201CYa know for that I%u2019m going to decapitate you.%u201D He swings his sword narrowly missing the demons head. %u201CDahh fuck!%u201D He yelled while spinning around for another strike, this time hitting the demon in the side completely slicing him in two. %u201CThat%u2018ll teach you for pissing me off,%u201D Night Lancer replied as he pushed the now two piece demon over onto the floor.
%u201CWell that%u2019s it, he%u2019s definitely a demon hunter,%u201D replies Urd, now glad that it was all over. %u201CNow we can go back to our lives.%u201D
%u201CHahaha, guess what? There%u2019s absolutely no way that you can go back to your lives!%u201D yelled a voice from behind Night Lancer, %u201CBecause you see I%u2019m about to end them!%u201D
%u201CDahh FUCK!%u201D yelled Night Lancer as he turned around to see the demon that he just killed reattaching his body, %u201CYou just don%u2019t know when to die.%u201D
%u201CNahh, its not that you pathetic mortal,%u201D replied the demon in a superior tone of voice, %u201CYou and your pathetic weapons can%u2019t kill me.%u201D
%u201CHmm, you%u2019d think that wouldn%u2019t you,%u201D replied Night Lancer coolly as he reached into his jacket for his box of cigarettes, lit one up and put it back. %u201CYou just haven%u2019t seen what I can do.%u201D
%u201CYeah, right, what ever,%u201D said the demon while sticking out his hand and shooting a ball of energy at Night Lancer, hitting him in the chest and knocking him flying into the wall.
%u201CDahh fuck,%u201D coughed Night Lancer. %u201CLucky shot, but you ain%u2019t gonna get the chance to do it again.%u201D He got up and cleared the dirt off ht jacket. %u201CAlright now I%u2019m pissed.%u201D He said while he inspected a burn hole in his jacket.
%u201CAlright this time you ain%u2019t gonna get up again!%u201D Night Lancer yelled as he grabbed his Katana and charged the demon. %u201CFUCK YOU!%u201D he yelled as he jumped up swang his blade over head with such force it hit the demon and cleaved it in half from the head down. Night Lancer landed on the ground effortlessly, stood up and said under his breath, %u201CAnd stay down this time.%u201D
Meanwhile, on the sidelines, Urd, seeing the destruction of their opponent, yelled at the top of her voice. %u201CLET%u2019S SEE YOU STITCH THAT UP AGAIN!%u201D
Belldandy took one look at the horrific mess and gore of the battle went green in the face and ran in doors followed closely by Keichii.
Meanwhile, Night Lancer dropped his katana and fell to his knees. He looked at his opponent and said, %u201CI need a drink%u2026 A big drink.%u201D He fell to the ground with blood coming out of the wound in his chest where the energy ball had hit him earlier. The blood made a small puddle on the stone pathway leading up to the temple building and just as he slipped out of consciousness he could hear Urd%u2019s voice yell out, %u201CNight Lancer!%u201D
