Want to do a picture with digitally colored wings AGAIN. *faints*
So, like, I think this has topped the charts for the vote of 'picture that has taken me the longest amount of time'. @@ And, you know what? This was for an art trade! That's right- this is Iku, who was created by

. Go give her some love and 2,000 more pageviews!
Yeah, I know that the file size is huge, and there's still a minor little thing left to be done to the picture, but I'll edit it later. Because I'm cranky with an art rot, and I'm calling this picture DONE, dammit. I'll have the done version up later tonight.
The majority of the reason why this took so long was the wings. It'd take me at least five minutes to lay down the base colors for the shadows under the feathers, and that's WITHOUT smudging, blurring, etc. So you can only imagine.

Well, that and the dress, esp. the under-dress. There's a lot of warm and cool colors in there (color theory much?), and I merely toned it down. But my gods, never again (or at least not for a while, until Mewster gets a job and makes herself some money), I will never again take this much time on this big a picture again.
Now, I say, I command thee to full view! There is waaaaay too many subtle details if you just thumbnail it (the thumbnail is only about 15-25% of the picture). Besides, I put a little over 30 hours into this baby. The least you could do is that.
Well, you know what? Your turn, Nephie. I've done my exhausting part. How you color in all of those feathers, do all of the shading, etc in a mere 6-8 hour work session, I will never know. @@ You've earned my respect in that manner.
So, um, considering how I spent all of that time and effort in this, I needn't be reminded of the fact that her hairline should be moved up, or the fact that the right (our) hand seems a little too big. It's not perfect, yeah, but it's damned good enough for me. So no nitpicking, unless you which to hear a cranky, artist-blocked me. And that's never a good thing. Anything over 14 hours on a piece of art makes me like this.

Sorry, but I'm exhausted and DAMN I'M GLAD IT'S FINALLY DONE.
As much as I would love to steal this bright, colorful character with a dark past, Iku belongs to

Wow! I can really see all the work you put into this! Ha ha...Wings really do take forever.

But they look great! The whole thing does! I love how you really punched in some dark shadows to give the wings and dress a lot of depth. That's excellent. The pose is beautiful, with a wonderful sense of motion. And emotion, aww! It looks like such a lovely, happy scene. I feel all fuzzy lookin' at it. ^^
Truly wonderful work. Feel proud of this one.

It is so shiny! =3

There is something really interesting about the way you've presented the colors. She almost feels like a puppet, or shadow doll, in the sense of her against the background. Does that make sense? It sounded good in my head.
But...I'm not sure how to describe it. It's just...Different. And I like it. I think it's the really strong shading in the wings and whatnot; it gives her a different kind of dimensionality that is just too neat. Sure, it may've killed you, but dangit, it's fabulous! You should challenge yourself more often; I think you do great work!

Whoa...at least for the moment, you're on the front page!

The only thing I'm not really sure of is the foot, but your hands and face are great, and the colors are very striking.
