I Remember When

In the hot Arkansas spring afternoons
I remember when
We%u2019d walk home, exchanging laughs
Acting if we hadn%u2019t a care
To all the eyes staring as if we%u2019d gone mad.

Lost in the crickets%u2019 song on those black, black nights
I remember when
We%u2019d spend hours on end plotting, planning, and prewriting
Those numerous stories we%u2019d never complete.

Awakening to golden mornings
I remember when
We%u2019d share our dreams, and ponder on their meanings,
Comforting each other through the nightmares we%u2019d each endured.

And on that one evening, that pleasant evening on that specific summer%u2019s eve
I remember when
We promised each other there would be more memories to come.

I don't know if I've shown you before, but Angel, I wrote this for you--it was for the poetry lesson in school last year.

This is very beautiful... and very sad... I don't know what else to say.
