As it says in the title, this is a surreal piece, therefore you may not understand all of it. People will see this in many different ways and i want to leave it open to interpretation. :aww:
This is a piece that represents teenage life and the choices that must be made. I'm getting the knack of this drawing in a biro thing! :boogie:
Just so you know, what inspired me to draw this was the opening line to Good Riddance by Green Day, and I'm sorry about the naff scanning.
Now for the nitty gritty... (if I miss anything ask and I'll let you know)
Our teenager is in a crossroads of his life and doesn't know which path to follow. It's irrelevant which path he takes as all paths will lead him back to the fork in the road. (If he goes right he'll appear on the left).
If he does go right, he'll be going straight into the line of fire.
If he goes left, he'll be going backwards not embracing the changes in his life. This will also put him straight back into a dangerous scenario.
If he goes up it appears he'll head towards a devil, but it's an angel with a devils shadow (same if he goes down). This is his love and compassion for others.
The artist at the bottom shows that the teenager can see what's going on around him with the help of others.
The pot-holes are areas that you can fall, but you can also get up and carry on.
The dog with two heads shows the times when you argue with yourself and end up not moving.
The Archery target shows the goals in life. If you try hard enough you can hit the pin (archery term for dead centre) (Colours from outside inward are White, Black, Blue, Red, Gold)
In the bottom right is a figure very similar to 'Welcome', a sculpture by Jorges Blanco. It shows that you can be show one type of emotion, but actually feel another (see it's unhappy shadow).
The top right shows a pint of beer. It's isolated, alone. Any kind of drug abuse will lead to an isolation in life.
The botom left shows a small hill. You should not judge on appearances, for this would be hill could be a massive mountain range.
The top left, shows flowers. A group of flowers all following a leader who approaches a flower who refuses to conform. This is pier pressure (in floral form). But there's also another flower being defended by the rebel who has yet to make up it's mind about the life they want to follow.
The wavy distorted lines are there for 2 reasons, firstly it makes it look like a TV with bad reception and television is a massive part of todays world. It also makes it harder to focus on the picture as a whole and that is what young persons like myself find it hard to do. Look at life as a whole.
:boogie: Anyhoo, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
