This was a poor attempt at creating a river of lava. I'm not really sure if it was the fact that I'm new to this or if it was because the plug-in just wasn't as capable as the built-in water effects. Anyways, since I knew it wouldn't look as good I rendered it at 1024 x 768.
I think the main problem is that the lava looks too "flat" if you know what I mean. I'll see what I can do in the future to make it look more realistic. Maybe looking at it from a greater distance would help some? I mean the camera was like, umm... 50 meters (I think a meter is 3 feet, but since I usually don't work with meters I'm just guessing here) from the lava.
On the plus side the haze effect turned out quite well, along with the colorization of the terrain

That lava plugin doesn't look too good.
I think you should simply tweak the water properties, as well as the shore effect.
It gives okay-ish results, if the shore's properties are properly defined.
Don't be afraid to tweak the render with PSP afterwards, to make the lava look more fiery and correct the overall colors =)
