The Harbour (final version)
There came a sailing into view,
awa' to the harbour, lads
a tri-masted vessel fair and strong,
awa', awa' in the harbour
With 'er rigging all clean and bright,
awa' to the harbour, boys
And a painted name forecastin' fright,
awa', awa' in the harbour
The Death Valley Queen she's called,
awa' to the harbour, men
Her cap'n never keel-hauled,
down, oh down in the harbour
A bold faced man they oft' said,
awa' t' the harbour, m'lads!
Nae worry nor care for authority,
'ere she anchors in the harbour
A leap t' the docks her master makes,
guard the houses o' the harbour, men!
And a sack from his mate thrown 'e takes
awa', awa' in the harbour
"If legitimate, your business be,
(oh run awa' t' the harbour!)
"Welcome ashore, an' we'll trade with thee,
(awa' the scene in the harbour!)
"But tarry not in our waters long
(she makes ready in the harbour)
"For the Royal Navy's might is strong."
awa, awa' in the harbour.
"Hush my child, he speaks!
awa', awa' in the harbour
"Look, how fitted, expensive his breeks!"
awa', awa' t' the harbour
"I've come for your wine merchant,
an' for him alone t' this harbour,
For he and I have business t' repeat,
regarding his black-eyed daughter."
The man and girl produced right quick,
what a scene in the harbour!
A dowry, traded and a priest's service does stick,
awa', marriage in the harbour!
And back t' the Queen again,
Her ropes snaking back in the harbour
Master and company return t' spend,
awa', awa' in the harbour
She sails, master well wine-d.
passin' the entrance t' the harbour,
A father and Royal Officer all but blind,
awa', awa' in the harbour
Thus so, my boy, wary be,
o' pirate sailors in the harbour,
For 'tis nae good dealin with likes of he,
but raids staged on your daughters.
