The REAL Reason Hook Lost his Hand...
The two of us there did sit,
Beneath the Jolly Roger.
One a pirate of a villainous crew,
The other stuck in eternal youth.
We sat there solemn, awaiting a move
That would give away the others intentions.
When finally, the boy lay down his deck and said,
%u201CDo you got any aces?%u201D
With a gleeful laugh, I shook my head,
And proffered his only resort.
Joyfully, I exclaimed the words,
Those dread words, %u201CGo fish.%u201D
Beneath the fae laughter of his eyes
Rolled a thunderstorm of anger.
And in a fit of childish rage,
The game was suddenly over.
The cards went flying, left and right,
As he went flying %u2018bout the room.
He gnashed his teeth and rolled his eyes,
And declared, %u201CYou won%u2019t win this time!%u201D
His feet were nimble, his path was quick,
I didn%u2019t catch it in time.
I missed the gleam of his newly-drawn dagger,
And so, I lost my hand.
It was over in a flash, in a quick slicing motion.
I barely even felt it.
But this coarse, rude boy flew over my head,
Toward the port side of my ship.
Twas%u2019 then that I heard that unearthly noise,
That will haunt me evermore.
As the ticking got louder, my spirits fell lower.
As I saw what he planned to do.
With a rude gesture toward me, he flung it,
My bloody hand sailed over the side.
And into the mouth of the eagerly waiting monster
Riding the azure waves.
I stood agape, my mouth hung open.
Friend, turned into foul foe.
Twas then Pan hissed into my ear.
%u201CGo fish, you ugly codfish.%u201D
