Buster: He exits the girls house with uncertainty, fearing he has lost her sweet love. He allows his hopes of love to be wrapped in a single daisy. He plucks its petals one by one, until there is only one remaining. "..Aww-OOOH! She LOVES me!" he exclaims captivated by the news. The words are bliss to his ears, as if confirming his belief and encouraging his continuance to try and win her heart. He totters down the street, his head in a cloud of lovey daydreams. His body softly sways as he walks, as if his legs have become mush beneathe him and do their best to keep his body trudging towards his destination, arms hang down in front of him, carelessly flopping slightly against his body with each step. His hands are joined together, clinging to the remaining stem of the tiny daisy that sways side to side with his movement as he totters away to create a plan to make the girl his, forever.
Yes, he's smiling, cuz that's what I think his heart would feel in that moment if it were written on his face (like he did in the Arbuckle films). The petals (obviously) represent the coming and going of "love" in his life, one side is him watching the petals in hope of love, while the other side of him is watching the petals sadly fall from his grasp.
I thought it was cute that he has done this flower superstition in a few of his films, it describes his personality. He isn't a superstitious character, yet when it comes to love he seems to believe in everything fantastical. His mind soars to great heights that his usually "grounded" self would never be able to achieve. Behold the Busterness.
