Challenged by the phoenix, the great stallion charges across the open fields as his herd looks on. The phoenix watches his competitor with a knowing glint in his eye, for no one defeats the phoenix.
Done with pastel pencils. Very little reference used, a little to make certain the horse looked realistic and I made one of my birds model for the phoenix's outstretched wing. I'm quite happy with this piece. January 2006

I think this is the favorite piece I've seen from you so far.

I agree with whoever said this would be great for a children's book...it has such a soft, compelling style and vivid colors that I think kids would go for. I have such vivid memories of the illustrations from books that meant a lot to me when I was little!
