If you don't know already, I love Color Guard and everything about it. I was thinking about using a rifle instead of a flag because I'm mostly a rifle, but I felt the flag seemed a bit more threatening. :)

I've actually seen a flag been used as an offensive weapon, they are suprisingly effective. What adds to the credibility of this for animation of other drawings is that red is the most paramount primary colour that draws the eye, so the flag will be the main subject of the scenes, awesome job.
