This painting was an extra credit assignment for my Science class, and the job was to donate an original piece of artwork that was biology-related to one of the seniors at school for a project. I picked a sprig of blooming cherry blossom from my front yard and sketched it out. A few days later, I scanned and colored it.
When I started coloring it, I practiced painting without contour lines and kept the outlines faded to make sure things were in place. Afterwards, I removed the outlines and added a background using a texture from
Aethereality. I also used some cloud effects and added a couple of gradients to blend more colors in. The black symbol on the bottom was from one of those custom shape tools on Adobe Photoshop 7. The end result was fabulous.
This version has been shrunken down into your usual image size to save bandwidth, and in this version I removed my family name from the image due to personal reasons. (It's not that some people don't know, but I just don't like publically posting it.)
I better get the full 40 extra credit points for this. My grades need it. At least the senior in charge of this project liked it a lot.
The texture for the background is from
Aethereality.
