Spirit

This is Spirit, an amelonistic Red Tailed Hawk, at the Little Rock Zoo. I was a docent there when I was in high school. This picture was taken at Zoo Days when the volunteers all brought out the birds of prey for a display on the lawn - normally the birds of prey are not viewable to the public besides during education shows since they live in an area behind the scenes.

Spirit is amelonistic, not albino. There is also another Red Tailed Hawk at the zoo who is melonistic - completely black. And then there's the regular phase Red Tailed Hawk who looks like a typical example of the species.
