Grown Up Eyes
A scared little girl stands in her bathroom crying.
She doesn%u2019t know what to do
Things like this don%u2019t happen in little towns
Dads don%u2019t yell and scream
Slamming doors, hitting children
Little girls don%u2019t run away
Or walk home alone with broken legs
Perfect Angels don%u2019t come to earth broken
And mothers don%u2019t choose love over children
These are the after school specials
Thing like this don%u2019t really exist
Until you grow older and realize
That everything isn%u2019t the same
Some how your eyes grew older
And left your maturity out of the fun
Your parents aren%u2019t statuesque heroes
And dreams are torn by sardonic social standards
And when you try to fight against the pain
That has settled so perfectly in your postcard life
You find out that it can get worse
Poetic Fairy Tale Fantasies
Are really the quested perfection
Of a broken child, inside a girl
With grown up eyes
