You're fighting to breathe, to stay alive,
to keep your heart beating
when your strength is still fleeting.

I can't do anything, can't help,
can't stop you, can't try to keep you
when that Angel of Death comes for you.

You look up at me,
Innocence
in a world of chaos and destruction.
You give me a smile,
tear-filled eyes shining up at me.
You haven't much time left,
and I can't stop you
when you go
this time...
Can't stop you...

I feel my heart beating,
wanting to give you my strength,
my own immortality,
just to let you live,
let you enjoy life
a little bit more.
I've had my fill,
of the sorrows and the joys,
of the sadness and the cheer.
You shouldn't have to go,
when you've only had a taste.
I had so much
I needed to say,
needed you to see,
before you ever even thought
of leaving me.

A sigh escapes your lips,
and you whisper,
"I have to go."

I want to die,
right now,
never live again,
never come back.
When you're gone,
there'll be nothing here for me.

As the tears come,
streaming down my face,
I grovel to you not to go,
beg you to keep holding on,
just a little more,
that you'll live
if only you can just hold on...

And you reach up to my face,
wipe away my tears,
and with your knowing little smile,
you say,
"You'll be alright.
You'll find out soon...
you don't really need me."

As your hand brushes my cheek,
and I stare into your eyes,
I feel him...
feel his presence...
and I know you're gone.
I clutch you to me
and cry,
knowing
that all the tears in the world
won't bring you back
to me,
that nothing will release you
from him.

I hate him.
Hate Death.
He has taken the only one I needed,
and in return, all I get is this hollow emptiness inside.
An eternity of memories
of one who I couldn't save,
one who couldn't hold on,
the only one who loved
this forgotten king.
