Upon Deserted Shores...
It all began as a dream...no, a nightmare. The delicate snow hit the unwelcoming ground once again. It was a form of horrid abuse she had only withstood several hundred times before. Yet, the darkness insisted on testing her in this way, straining her emotionally and physically...but why? What had she done to deserve this all? What was the origination and reasoning of this torment? These were the questions constantly in her mind, and in her mind they would forever remain. She would never dare to ask, in fear of the answer, or the consequences it may cause. Once again, the tears of sorrow would fall in sets, another failure to add to the list. "All a dream" she tried to console herself with the words and thought. The face of malice and cruelty stared into her own, as if reading her soul through the passage of her eyes. "All a dream…" her only form of reassurance...three simple words never had so much meaning... Another strike, the throbbing sensation of pain. It seemed so real, but it couldn't be...it wasn't possible. His position was had; his intentions clear and her escape arrived. Rise from the world of slumber within a sheet of cold sweat, emitting gasps of short breath...once again she had escaped, and not a moment too soon. She turned her head to examine her dreary bedroom...her sanctuary. As always, no one was there, nor did she expect there to be. She was left alone, finally away from him.
A knock came to the door, had loving arms come to embrace her? Or to shun her away like a dire nightmare? …Ironic seeing as she'd just endured the sixth vision this week…another to add to the series. The knocking continued, the steady rhythm echoing throughout the cramped bedroom. The comfort of the soft and warm pillow welcomed her head and neck, both of which were throbbing in pain, from the thoughts of the nightmares. Eyelids fluttered shut, just as the gleam of light shone through the chamber's darkness. Hushed words never reached the point of clarity, and remained mumbles to her ears as the light was absorbed by the overpowering twilight. Pearls of green scanned through the room, searching for signs of movement. Once again, there was none.
Consistency's melody accompanied the words of confusion, singing an ode of mockery specially dedicated to her. The lines between reality and the unknown slowly became blurred. The focus never arrived; the haze continued until the boundary's existence was forgotten. Evidence unfolded itself in her presence, linking to pieces that puzzled her mind before. Things would finally start to make sense, and a loop would be thrown into ideas…suddenly none of it added up again. Meanwhile, unwelcome illusions continued to haunt her during the night. The darkness' mood changed in most unpredictable times. Sometimes serene as a slumbering infant, other times violent as if all of the heavens had broken in the worst imaginable storm. Months passed and the nightmares continued to harass her. It seemed almost as though the strength and clarity of the nightmares was feeding on her emotions of fear and anger. In the latest few, it seemed that the risk factor was becoming overpowering. She would reach her haven not a moment too soon, awakening shaken and fragile. Slowly though, the haven was shattered…the dreams had found their way into reality and permanently resided. How do you escape a nightmare that life itself has in store for you? She saw no reasonable answer…so where would she go? Where would he not be able to find her? It came in a song…entwined in hidden messages, and integrated into soft and harmonious melodies…death was the answer. Her plan was had; she knew it all, eternal rest would link her to true happiness, a life away from him. Little did she know that he was awaiting her arrival in the land of death, upon it's deserted shores.

Surreal Says:
Wow! I really like the language used and the imigary that you have created here. You've managed to cram a lot into a short piece. I especially like the nulling of resolution by the twist ending. I find the whole piece fairly emotional, making it a pretty powerful piece. Very nice!
