I actually like Monsters. They're fun, because they can be just about anything. Did this a couple weeks ago I think.. I hadn't really developed Monsters as much as I wanted to, so I just sketched whatever I felt like. It probably would help you understand what's going on if you read the description- but if that's too much work for you, I guess that's alright. D:

There are really two categories of Monsters- there are the ones who have bred true to their original species and therefore have predictable genetics.. offspring ends up looking more or less like the parent, etc. These ones tend to be the offspring of the Monsters that Auhelon had created before Lethe got him to stop. Then there are the ones with family roots traced all over the place, with a hodgepodge of DNA.. these are the ones who tend to develop defects and generally look like freaks. The freaks, of course, are the ones that the rest of the Underworld's society (though mostly Lethe, as he started it) use to justify their prejudice. "THEY'RE UGLY. I DON'T WANT THEM MESSING UP MY BEAUTIFUL WORLD."

Cat Monsters (another phrase I don't like using- but it fits the job) are one of the true species, shown in the upper left hand corner. They start life on all fours but as they reach their teens they begin to consistantly walk upright.. though if they have to travel quickly it's less awkward for them to drop back down. As a young child they possess mostly their more animalistic instincts- playfighting and such, I'm sure you've seen the things kittens do. Around the time that they learn to talk they develop their more civilized mannerisms, and their primal side is forgotten by early teens.
I know it looks like they're covered in fur, but in reality they're not. Their skin is colored as the fur would be, but they only have patches of fur around their body, most notably from elbow down and from knee down. The rest are random and vary from one to another. They're really fun to color. I kind of wish I had any skill in animating- the way I see them walking in my mind, they rock back and forth a bit as they walk.. well, whatever. I just wish I could show it.

An example from the other category.. looks like a .. rattlesnake? Or a.. well, who really knows. They don't fit into any recognizable classification. Check out that arm; She wasn't given the right combination of genes for that, so what ended up happening is that the bones and muscles didn't attach right at the elbow and is pretty much hanging there uselessly. The only thing keeping it attached is the skin (which is actually tougher than ours, scaly and rough). So it goes. Anyway, I just wanted to show how messed up Monsters can get due to interspecies breeding and all those lovely things. It's not really pleasant.

The guy next to Ms. Ugly is just more like the contemporary concept of demons- fire and brimstone and red skin and batwings. Not to that extent, but closer. I was just messing around. They're not really important.

Below that is another example of strange genes in action. One of his arms has feathers hanging from it and a hand at the end, the other is just a wing.. no fingers, no anything. A lose-lose situation, in the end.

And next to him, but not the same picture.. I was lazy and didn't feel like getting a new peice of paper, that's their Origin Tzyx. She's looking a lot less cute than I drew her previously. Tons of fun to draw anyway. I really like her. Got sloppy on the wing, so its shape is off. I can't draw wings in the first place, so whatever.

Fun stuff.
